Short summary

A mystery unfolds when a plane that disappeared five years ago returns, yet no time passed for those on the plane.

Including the show Manifest (2018), this is the fourth series in which the pilot episode centers on mysterious events which occur on a passenger airliner (at least in the twenty-first century). The other shows include: Lost (2004) , Fringe - Grenzfälle des FBI (2008) and The Strain (2014). The first two shows were produced filmed by J.J. Abrams while the last show was produced by Lost collaborator Carlton Cuse. Lost was shot in Hawaii; The pilot of Fringe was shot in Toronto but set in Boston, while the rest of the season was filmed in New York City and the later seasons were in Vancouver; The Strain was set in New York City but the majority of filming took place in Toronto; Manifest was set and filmed in New York.

After Michaela and Ben free the dogs the fence behind them bears the numbers 828 the same as their flight Montego Air Flight 828. Additionally, the pillow cover crocheted by their mother bears a Biblical quote: Romans 8:28.

I accidently saw this was to air so recorded it. I thought this was going to be like Lost or something similar, but it seems to lean more towards X-Files which is ok. I'm not sold but it was good enough for me to look at the next one. The bible verse angle may be interesting if they don't have the only easter egg being 8:28.

I was able to check out the first and second episode tonight. I am now left wanting more! There is quite a bit of solid character development, especially with the family who seems to be the focal point of this series. I was really hoping that it wouldn't be strictly how all the passengers interact with life once they get back... it seems like much more than that. Such as what really happened for those five years, do the passengers have some special powers, are they connected, etc. overall I would say go check it out for yourself, you might like it too!

Someone on here gave the show a rating of 1/10 because when they went to watch it. All they can view are the trailer and some photos. Not very helpful when you base a review on that.. I myself give episode 3 a bad review because it isn't being broadcast til 8/10/18 and its still only the 7th..

In a strange yet compelling "This Is Us" meet "Lost" way, Manifest works really well from the pilot on. The core themes becomes clear within minutes, and the emotions are present right away thanks to a solid cast (Josh Dallas and Melissa Roxburgh are both fantastic as Ben and Michaela). It is extremely interesting to drop the sci-Fi side a little (but not too much) to explore the aftermath of flight 828 in a rather honest and grounded way, without ever going overboard with pathos and forced feelings. Characters are pretty well written, and it is easy to like them and forge a bond with them. The plot, even if it is something that modern fiction has observed and channeled for a while (missing planes and what happened to their passengers), remains fresh thanks to that 5.5 years twist, and the supernatural touch isn't phones or overwhelming. A very good start to a promising show !
