David Weiss, young and idealistic, joins struggling TV network IBS. His coworkers include the shark-like Mick McClaren, the airheaded Lindsay Urich, and Joanne Waters, the network's token black executive. His immediate boss, programming exec Paul Weffler, combines McClaren's amorality with Urich's cluelessness, which means his job is always threatened by both of them (and by Waters). Finally, the network president, Red, is always right, even when he isn't.

Named after the time slot that it aired in.

John Cleese's character, Red, is inspired by Rupert Murdoch.

OK, so this show isn't the funniest thing on television. I think if they get rid of that canned laughter and just let the jokes run off themselves it could be better. The talent is great, Ivan Sergei shows his great strength as and actor here. As does several of the cast members..I think this has potential, given the chance. Give it a chance!

Groin-grabbingly bad. What a tragic waste of the talents of John Cleese and Ed Begley, Jr. Peter Tolan should have stuck with "The Job". I've seen a lot of bad TV in my day, but this program LITERALLY gave me a stomachache it was so godawful. I predict that ABC will very rapidly be pulling "Wednesday 9:30 (8:30 Central)" from the Wednesday 9:30 (8:30 Central) time slot. Try again, program development people, but next time, BE MORE FUNNY!

Funny in an edgy, biting way; the way you don't want to admit to bumping into in your otherwise dull and dreary life. Not as disquieting as Eraserhead, but not as deep either. No hidden symbolism, no Kafkaesque allegory here. In fact it shows the shallowness of its characters all too well in crisp reality.

To say that John Cleese was wasted in "Death Be Not Preempted Toight" is to have missed the whole damned point! If you loved Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka more than Dahl's original, don't make the effort to find this respite from feel good comedy.

If you prefer Schweppe's Bitter Lemon over Lemon Dry then hunt down these few tasty morsels.
