» » Popeye the Sailor Duel to the Finish (1960–1962)

Short summary

Olive Oyl is bored with Popeye just sitting around her house playing with a yo-yo. She wants him to be romantic, but Popeye considers that to be sissy. Olive cooks up a plot to make Popeye jealous. She fries up some hamburgers and then uses an electric fan to blow the aroma over to Wimpy's house. The trick works and soon Wimpy is in her kitchen using food analogies as compliments, e.g. "Your eyes are like limpid pools of chicken fat." Popeye laughs this all off until he hears the unmistakable smack of a kiss (which Olive planted on Wimpy's nose). Popeye challenges Wimpy to a fight, but Wimpy declares that fisticuffs are beneath his dignity. Instead, he proposes an eating duel.

    Hey, good for Popeye!

Here's an episode where he's not fawning all over the fickle, skinny babe Olive Oyl.

The two are sitting on the coach and Olive is unhappy. "Popeye, will you stop playing with that yo-yo and look at me for a change," says Olive.

"Ok, Olive, I am lookin' at ya. So what? "I thought sailors were supposed to be romantic." I an a man's mansk, Olive, and only siskies are romantical." "Well, I'll have to get me a new boyfriend."

With that exchange, Olive thinks to herself, "I have to find a way to make that man jealous."

The man she picks was a shock. You figured it had to be Brutus but, instead, it's Wimpy. Even Popeye laughs at that. "I couldn't get jealous of Wimpy."

Olive keeps feeding hamburgers to Wimpy, you gets more and more infatuated with Olive as she serves 'em up. "You're eyes are like liquid pools of chicken fat," says Wimpy "Ooooooh. You say the most romantic things," replies Olive. Later. she kisses him and now Popeye is finally jealous.

How the two guys settle the match is a bit strange and not all that funny, but at least it was en episode filled with some decent dialog.
