Short summary

Two residents of Prospect Heights discuss their opinions on the race relations and changes to the neighborhood. Their issues? One is a "gentrifier" and one the "gentrified."
am Bauer is a new resident to the aspiring Brooklyn neighborhood of Propsect Heights. His opinion on the neighborhood is an unflattering one; but a common one shared by his socio-economic demographic. However, the fact that rent is cheap is enough of a reason for him to live there and tolerate the slow gentrification of its original residents. Denise Brown is a long-term resident of the same area. However, crime and rising rent has pushed her deeper into the heart of Brooklyn. She wants nothing more than to be able to live respectfully where she grew up. But can both groups co-exist? And would they want to if they could?

This is an interesting film about a dilemma we often don't think about but that exists in some cities. When you have a poor neighborhood and suddenly more affluent people move in, crime tends to go down and the neighborhood seems to improve. However, at the same time, property values and rent go up--sometimes forcing long-time residents to leave. In other words, for some people, having a "lousy" neighborhood has its advantages.

In this case, the neighborhood is a part of Brooklyn, New York. In this low-income area, more affluent folks are moving in and things are changing both for better and for worse. Some of the tension is economic and some seems to be along racial lines. People on both sides are interviewed and the film does a much better job of drawing attention to the problem than actually creating any clear answers--as there might not be any.

Well made, interesting and very thought provoking--this is a very good short documentary.
