When Mad Jack(played by Denver Pyle) is believed drowned in a raging river, James "Grizzly" Adams(Dan Haggerty) and Nakoma(Don Shanks) reflect on how they first met, when Adams was a newcomer to the wilderness with his rescued bear cub Ben. Jack is at first unimpressed by the "greenhorn" Adams, and soon forgets him, but later on at their second meeting does remember him, and is surprised to see him alive and well, and will be impressed by his resourcefulness and affinity with the animals. Good old number seven the mule is with him now(number six having passed away). Of course, Mad Jack proves difficult to kill so easily by drowning... Appealing episode that memorably gives the welcome origin of their friendship.
