With Earth now under Thanagarian control, the Justice League goes into hiding to recover and cope with the betrayal of one of their own.

Many of the events within "Starcrossed" borrow from the JLA arc "Tower of Babel", in which Ra's al Ghul obtains Batman's files on how to take out the Justice League one member at a time. Both storylines deal with an enemy exploiting the individual members' weaknesses. Both also end very similarly: the team votes on whether a member should be allowed to stay and Superman casts the deciding vote, but the member resigns before the decision can be made known to them. It also references the White Martian invasion storyline written by Grant Morrison in the form of extraterrestrials related to one of the League members landing and offering assistance as cover for a planned invasion.

According to the DVD commentary during Лига справедливости: Без границ: The Return (2004) where Oa was apparently destroyed by Amazo, the initial story for "Starcrossed" was going to have the Thanagarians destroy it rather than Earth.

The Thanagarians are building a Hyperspace Bypass, the same thing the alien Vogons are building in Douglas Adams' book The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Both devices have the same effect of destroying the Earth when activated. The Thanagarians are defeated by the Justice League before their device activates, but in Adams' book the Vogons succeed.

After Batman frees Superman, he is weakened. Batman hands him a hammer resembling Mjolnir, the hammer wielded by Marvel Comics' character Thor, and tells him to, "Try this." Superman is one of the few DC characters shown who is able to lift the hammer.
