Rock Story tells the trajectory of the rocker Guilherme Santiago, who was very successful in the 90s and now tries to return to the charts. In the plot, set in Rio, love and music run together, approaching hearts that have the same ideals.

Gui is a former rock star who struggles to reinvent himself in his professional and personal lives after another artist steals his fame and his wife. Imperfect, careless, but with a giant heart, he will be tested by fate while having the opportunity to change his life by finding out about a teenage son and facing a new and unexpected love affair. But in order to change his own story, he will have to make the right choices he did not make in the past.

During the early stages of production, the series was titled "Sonha Comigo" but later changed to Rock Story. It is also licenced as "Rockstória" by Viacom International.

Giulia Gam was initially cast as Néia but was later replaced by Ana Beatriz Nogueira.

Herson Capri has played Alinne Moraes's father before in Duas Caras (2007). Although, he only appeared in the first few episodes of the latter.

Unlike the traditional Monday release and premiere of new telenovelas, this telenovela actually premiered on a Wednesday.
