The name of this film's source novelist Henry Handel Richardson is actually a pseudonym for the writer's real name of Ethel Florence Lindesay Richardson. As such, this film about college school girls at the turn-of-the-century in a boarding school was actually written by a woman, and not a man, as the nom de plume suggests.
