The New York Times is issuing a new editorial edict to its staff. They can no longer use the term "female genital mutilation". That's right. The reason the Times is not going to use that term is purely political - politically correct. The editors say the term is - quote - too culturally loaded and widens the divide between the civilized, western world and these six-century throw-backs. In other words, the Times does not want to insult Islam. Now-- By doing this, the New York Times is doing two things: First, it is white-washing and excusing a tragic, inhuman, ideological form of suppression of young girls and women. In fact, its an abomination. And second, the Times is highlighting why the paper is going bankrupt - financially, philosophically, and journalistically. And, third- and maybe more insidious - The New York Times - as the newspaper of record for America - is setting a new tone for newsrooms across this country.
