As this, the final story of the second season, opens we see a woman struggle to free herself from captivity; she gets away and staggers into the street where she is found by Group A members Ida and Gunnar. They follow a trail back to the place she was held and discover boxes full of illegal steroids. Kerstin, Group A's leader, considers these to be a single case but her superiors believe the case of the kidnapped woman should be handled by local police and Group A should focus on the drugs which are linked to the international drug smuggling ring known as Maximus. It isn't long before two women who were in the same class as the kidnapped woman turn up dead; each killed in a similar way while bound and gagged. Kerstin refuses to drop the case. Meanwhile Paul is asked to investigate the death of an intelligence officer; it isn't long before it becomes obvious to the viewer that his case is linked to Group A's case.

This episode is a solid conclusion to the second season although it didn't feel like the last ever episode despite being based on the last book in the series... and given that it was written back in 2007 I suspect there won't be more which is a pity. The story got off to a good start, quickly grabbing my attention and as it progressed the tension rose nicely as new details were revealed. Having Paul involved with an apparently totally separate case that turns out to be closely linked to Group A's case has become somewhat a cliché this season but such things go with the genre and it is fun trying to work out how the cases will finally be linked. As the motives for the killings becomes apparent there is a sense of tragedy; without spoiling it too much the victims had each taken part in a particularly disturbing event when still at school. The cast do a solid job and I'll certainly miss their characters.

EYE IN THE SKY revolves around two plots: - the first centers on an international drug-smuggling ring masterminded by Inglund (Peter Järn) with a cover of a fitness center; and the second on a series of brutal murders of early middle-aged women who are suffocated and brutally mutilated around their genitalia. Eventually it transpires that the two are connected, with the main suspect being Mikaela Harrie (Disa Östrand), an ex-girlfriend of a murdered mobster (Micke Spreitz).

The resolution is full of holes, with questions particularly raised by the involvement of the drug-smuggler in what turns out to be a local dispute. If he was as powerful as Kerstin (Malin Arvidsson) suggests, then it is highly likely he would have several 'associates' to carry out his dirty work for him rather than soiling his hands in physical or armed combat.

The plot meanders along with little or no concern for resolution, pausing along the way to raise once again the question of Kerstin's troubled home life, as she tries to look after little Anders (Pascal Andersson) while trying to clear up the case in time for Christmas. We also learn something about Gunnar's (Magnus Samuelsson's) troubled past, as he admits to being addicted to steroids, which cost him his marriage as well as access to his two children. Evidently a police officer's lot is not a happy one, as the saying goes.

The story ends neatly enough, with everything being sorted out in time for Christmas Day. The episode ends with a shot of the A-Team all sat round Christmas trees enjoying the festive cheer. Perhaps this metaphor of good fellowship is an appropriate one to end a series past its sell-by date.
