Short summary

Children write to Jimmy Savile asking him to make a dream come true for them on national television.

At its peak, the series had 15 million viewers. The production team opened almost 5,000 letters a day.

The theme tune was sung by sisters Wee Papa Girl Rappers.

There were more than 1,500 'Fix Its' over the course of the series.

It is now believed that Jimmy Savile used the series to gain access to children. A year after Savile's death, allegations of sexual abuse were made to 13 British law enforcement agencies. London's Metropolitan Police launched a criminal investigation in October 2012. Related inquiries launched at the same time examined practices at the BBC and the NHS (Savile also volunteered at hospitals). A report published January 11, 2013 revealed at least 214 offenses over 50 years, with victims as young as 8 years old.
