An electricfying documentary film about the people and music that fuel Trinidad's breathtaking Carnival. For the last 200 years, the sleeping giant wakes every winter and Trinidad & Tobago braces for another riotous Carnival. The island explodes to the thundering sounds of Steel Drums, Calypso and Soca music, as frenzied masqueraders flood the streets in their magnificent, sexy costumes. This is the moment everyone's been waiting for, the moment to transform into someone else - someone powerful, sexual and completely uninhibited, if only for a few days. Forget Rio. Forget New Orleans. Experience bacchanal Trini style.

    What a nice little movie.

Very rarely does a movie capture both the Caribbean feel and culture, then put it on film for non West Indians to understand and appreciate. Carival Roots traces the roots from African culture into modern day Trinidad's carnival.

Overall, the movie is far more entertaining than informative. The history of Carnival was touched on but seem to deal more with today's canivals than the "Roots of Carnival." Its a nice little film with bright colors, good music and lots of jokes. Spend your money and be entertainted for 90 minutes.
