It's hard to set up a big score at the last minute. But that's what Rocco is trying to do. Little does he know that everything will go wrong from the get-go. From the enlistment of his distrustful associate Seymour who insists on bugging him about his ex-girlfriend Kim, to his cousin Maynard, who suffers from bouts of diarrhea and fits of ADHD, he'll be lucky to survive the night. Then again, the guys may not survive each other.

This is why IMDB ratings are a total farce. 8.4 is higher then another 2008 film, In Bruges which I just watched for the third time and had both main characters nominated for Golden Globe, which Colin Farrell won, and also rates higher then either of Guy Ritchie's two best films.. how is this trash even considered in the same league as those three excellent movies? The previous reviewer even dared make comparisons to films by Kevin Smith and Tarantino which is like saying a Yugo is similar to a Lamborghini or a two year olds stick family rendering is similar to a Rembrandt... not saying those other films are masterpieces, but if reviewers here rate this horribleness on same level as these mentioned above, then one wonders what they would rate as worthless and puts rating systems fed by clueless amateurs in total fantasyland

I was worried at first looking at the movie poster for this ambitious independent film. It reminded me of movies like Snatch. I saw the trailer and saw the black and white cinematography and the quick paced dialog and thought that going after the style of directors like Kevin Smith and Quentin Tarantino may be a mistake. The trailer definitely had my attention. Would this be another one of those homage to 90's movies with their signature cinematography and quirky dialog? I am happy to report that This Is Encino blew me away. I am a big crime/comedy fan and a purist that loves the 90's indie flicks due to the artistic cinematography used to make an original story stand out. Michael Gemballa keeps true to the genre and brings out these elements in This is Encino. The black and white cinematography adds to the quirkiness of the film. The story flows well without any hiccups that most successors who try to emulate this style, seem to miss. What a choice of actors! These guys really had chemistry and took the dialog to a new level. The exchanges between them had me laughing the whole time. This not stop roller coaster heist story will keep you entertained! All in all this is a wonderful flick that needs to added to the collection of 90's crime comedies!
