What an amazing action/horror film it is man. Yes, u heard it rite. U can call it a horror film too. The amount of non stop kills, stabbings, brutal n insane violent scenes, the non stop splatter is far more than in any recent horror films. Coming back to the action, the choreography of the fight scenes is top notch. It is a non stop action extravaganza for fans of the genre. There r too many brutal action scenes. The pool ball scene with the scalp attached to it may upset some viewers. With Iko Uwais as the villain, Joe Taslim as the man seeking redemption, Julie Estelle as the badass femme fatale n Zack Lee as the strong n daring junkie, then u probably get a solid action film. Hats off to Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre, segments from Vhs 2 n ABC's of death, Killers n Headshot). Kill Bill, John Wick, Rambo n Expendables looks like kindergarten in front of this film.

I am going to keep this review nice and short. If you don't mind over-the-top violence and appreciate action movies then this movie is, plainly put, the best action movie of all time. That's right, I said it.

This is the Raid 3 in essence and if you like the first two movies then this movie is a must-watch for fans.

Amazing fight chirography and the action sequences are amazing.

Loved every bit of the 120 minutes running time.

We need to thank the film makers, actors and Netflix for bringing this to us. Easily the best Netflix in its history so far.

A solid 10/10. Watch it for yourself.

I was hugely disappointed when RAID director Gareth Evans revealed that THE RAID 3 was never going to happen, but I'm delighted to report that THE NIGHT COMES FOR US is the next best thing. It's another breakneck Indonesian action flick with a routine plot, good actors, and astonishing and lengthy action sequences. Joe Taslim - the SWAT team leader in THE RAID - plays the hero, a former assassin who leaves his old life but find it coming after him. Iko Uwais is unusually cast as the villain while Julie Estelle - THE RAID 2's Hammer Girl - appears as an assassin. This film boasts a series of incredibly violent martial arts fights that utilise all manner of props and weaponry in a bid to destroy and disable the human body in as many creative ways as possible. The fight choreography is crisp and clear, the actors obviously skilled at what they do, and the pulse-pounding mayhem never lets up; it's hard to pick a favourite fight when there are so many stand-out moments here. What I can say is that the bloodshed is incredibly explicit, making this by far the most gruesome action film I've ever watched. And I can't wait to see it again!

For those who thought that The Raid 1 & 2 were the last word in kinetic, ultra-brutal martial arts movies, think again: The Night Comes For Us, from director Timo Tjahjanto, is a strong contender for the most excessively violent, blood-drenched action flick ever made. The film's many fight scenes are wonderfully choreographed and flawlessly executed, Tjahanto's breath-taking direction employing shooting techniques that are guaranteed to astound, although it's the sheer quantity of blood and guts that really impresses.

The film stars Joe Taslim as triad member Ito, who seeks redemption for all the terrible things that he has done by saving a young girl, Reina (Asha Kenyeri Bermudez), from his hit squad. Having gunned down his own men and escaped with the girl, Ito finds himself targeted by the triad's top killers, who include Raid star Iko Uwais as his old pal Arian, Julie Estelle (The Raid 2's Hammer Girl) as a motorcycle-riding assassin, and a pair of lesbian hit-women: Elena (Hannah Al Rashid), who is armed with a kukri knife, and Alma (Dian Sastrowardoyo), who wields a whirling wire weapon.

As Ito, aided by his loyal friends Bobby (Zack Lee), Fatih (Abimana Aryasatya) and Wisnu (Dimas Anggara), battles to protect Reina, viewers are treated to all manner of graphic violence: bodies are beaten and mutilated, necks are slashed, and bones are broken. A man is hung on a meathook, someone is machine gunned in the face, and a grenade rips another poor bloke to pieces. There's a shotgun blast to the foot, a knife through the neck, a severed hand, an evisceration, pool balls to the skull, a hook in the crotch, a utility knife in the mouth (and through the cheek), and more bullet hits and stabbings than I can recall. The stuntwork is amazing and it's hard to believe that no-one was seriously injured.

The carnage is so spectacular that it's easy to forgive the simplicity of the plot (the narrative is not nearly as involved as The Raid 2; it's more akin to the original Raid movie in terms of complexity).

I've been needing a good insane action movie fix for a while now, and this was definitely it. Once this movie ramps up, it never comes back down. Nonstop incredible action all the way through. This film is amazing at using its surroundings to its advantage. A fight scene in a butchers room? Every cleaver, slab of meat, meat hook, and bone becomes a weapon. Fight next to a pool table? Pool balls and pool sticks used in the most brutal way possible. The fight choreography is phenomenal and I was almost convinced they were just beating the piss out of the actors. This movie is such a brutal and fun time, a great movie to watch with a room full of energetic friends.

This was Some Next Level Cinematic Orgasmic Nirvana of Feel Good Giddy Heart Pumping Joy !!! But there are some familiar beats that give you De'ja' Vu Memories of past triumphs of the last 5 decades !!! The sound track recalls those Italian Giallo Horror Flicks from the 1980's !! I also got Sonny Chiba and Sue Shiomi 1970's Japanese Action Club feels from some of the fights especially from The Street Fighter movies !! The Apartment Rumble gave pure Grindhouse Memories of all those Gang Fight/ Apartment Invasion Films from the 1970's to 1980's !!!! For the Final Fight I learned that Joe and Iko were really throwing down with actual hits and kicks like the Hong Kong Action Stars of the 1980s to 90's !!! Real Fighting !!! Then all the Blood and Guts remind me of the Splatter Gore Gonzo Films from Japan in the 2000's !! I've seen this film several times already because like the Raid and Raid 2 which I've seen 100's of times either in full or just certain fights !!!I loved the Operator and Alma and Elena !!! When Dian Sastrowardoyo laughs at her opponent I'm reminded of all the great Asian Villains who laughed during those Kung Fu Theater Flicks from the 1970s to 80's !!! I loved when the Operator tells Alma that she will regret wearing white !!!I loved Julie Estelle and Hannah Al Rashid speaking French to each other( because they are both part French ). It felt partially like watching a French Splatter Film from the 2000's during their final fight !! Films like Martyrs, High Tension, Frontiers, etc. Well looks like this film will hold the bar for the next 8 years until the next latest and greatest action film takes the bar and hoists it higher !!!! If not 8 years then maybe the next 4-5 years !!!! This all in all felt like something Brand New but with all the good feels of something classic and Nostalgic !! Take THAT Current CGI Overloaded American Action Drivel !!! Tom Cruise can never be Badass !! The current Chinese and Hong Kong Churn out Tosh =too much wire work and CGI !! Thailand Action Films lost the Nerve !!! Korean Action Films are too censored !!! Current Japan Action Films not even close !!! Indian Action films too much singing and dancing !!! Can't wait for a non-Indonesian Action Film to come out that proves me wrong !!! Fingers Crossed !!!

UPDATE - Halloween 2018 - After taking a week off because I was constantly watching certain scenes over and over again or just watching the movie without subtitles because I have seen it so many times with subtitles and I even saw it for the first time with no sound and just Indonesian subtitles so I went cold turkey without watching The Night Comes For Us and waited until Halloween to watch it with fresh eyes !!! And Boy do I notice details that I overlooked before !!! Like at the end Arian's Macau crew are the ones that Chien Wu Summoned to shoot Arian !!!!!! The one to put the bullet to the head of Arian is his right hand man who will be a Six Seas in Arian's place !!! So that meant the Chien Wu was just playing Arian and was going to double cross him whether he killed Ito or not !!!!! At the beginning in Macau , I always thought Arian slammed Big Boss Brother into the window but he slammed his head into the glass table !! When Ito picks up Reina in the parking garage she is giggling instead of crying !! Rumah Dara herself, Shareefa Daanish is the Sniper and I thought she was only in one scene but she was in another scene holding a heavy box while Chien Wu was seated confronting Arian !!! Also The Six Seas were present in a flashback to when Ito and Arian were initiated in the Triad !!! For the sequel it will be The Operator , Shinta & Reina getting payback !!! Probably Reina is grown up and trained by The Operator to get revenge for her village !! Shinta wants revenge for her fallen Boyfriend , Fatih as well as her former love interest Ito !!! The Operator went against Chien Wu so she will have a price on her head !!! I highly believe The Operator used to be Number One of the Lotus !!! Because the Lotus is a Secret Organization of Highly Trained Female Operatives for Hire to the Highest Bidder !!!! Only someone who used to be in it would know the Ranking System and identities of the top ten at least !!!! So you have Chien Wu and his new Enforcer who took Arian's spot after he killed him !!! Maybe Arian's Right Hand Man in Macau ?? Probably going to be a Blood Bath !!! Can't Wait !!!!! Until then I'm looking forward to More White Boy Bobby-Zack lee in Buffalo Boys and Foxtrot Six with Eka- Oka Antara with choreograhy from Iko, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman !!!! as well as Julie Estelle !!!

LOL !!!! I watched it again and one of the most surprising moments was when Reina stabs a attacker in the car with a retractable knife in his neck !!! I always thought the knife was already in the car !!! But on seeing it again I realized that Reina picked it up off the floor from when White Boy Bobby had lost it earlier !!! It was bloody but I assume Reina wiped the blood off on her dress. She even is seen holding it when Elena is eyeing her as she cowers behind Wisnu and Fatih tells them to go out the back way !!! Speaking of the Attacker !!! He has long hair and a mustache and a lighter complexion and gets killed three times in three different fight scenes !!! LOL !!! The Joys of Film Making !!!! Like a Shaw Brothers Film from the Golden Era !! seeing an actor playing different roles in the same movie !!!

There is a time jump when Ito and Reina first showed up at Shinta's Apartment and Ito passes out !!! Because of a green sink !!! When Ito wakes up, the sink is not green and they are at Fatih's Apartment / Photo Studio !!! I guess Fatih had to find legitimate work since Ito and Arian left to become Six Seas !! It even looks very spacious and not cramped like Shinta's apartment !! When Ito and Reina are again on the run , he calls Shinta and tells her the bad news about Fatih, Bobby Bule' and Wisnu !!! She screams and gets rid of her phone then gets lost !!! Ito and Reina hideout at Shinta's apartment because of the green sink !!!! During The Operator's fight with Ito she does a Mad Dog Move with Ito breaking that green sink !!!

Reina looks like she is played by five different girls for dialogue, wide shots , scared acting, etc. Because even though they look similar they have differences and don't look the same age !!! Plus their hair styles don't match from shot to shot !!! I knew I wasn't going crazy !!!

Formerly Number one of the Lotus , The Operator is a highly skilled fighter in her fight with Elena !!! The first time The Operator cut Elena in her stomach there is a small cut and I believe Elena is wearing a Kevlar lined shirt but as they continue to fight the cut is getting wider and wider as Elena is exerting her body to kill the Operator until finally her guts come out of the cut which has split open her stomach !!! Like a delayed reaction !!! Then the Operator finishes Elena off brutally !!!

One Final Thought !!! I feel so dissatisfied when I watch the film now , that I feel like Oliver Twist when he says " I WANT MORE , ......please..."

You think you've seen it all? Action, blood, guts, brains, bullets, body parts, broken teeth, sliced fingers, chopped heads, smashed heads, broken skulls, broken bones, protruding bones, hmmm? Think you've seen it all? SMH ... you haven't... until you watch this film.

Watchers beware, this film is not for the faint of heart. If you plan on becoming an active war medic, or a member of the cartel torture squad... well you get my point. ..

Anyone who compares this to The Raid should watch it again. Let me explain.

Story: Now, everyone recognizes that there is practically no story. But that's different from a legitimately bad story. Take The Raid: Redemption & John Wick for example. Both of them have the bare bones minimum for a story, and that makes it enjoyable & fun to watch. However, the story actually detracts from the enjoyability because of how stupid some of the character decisions made are. The main character should have honestly been killed many times over, but he had some of the best plot armor I've seen in a long time. So when you get to the action scenes, you can't immerse yourself & enjoy it as much because there's the nagging feeling of "this shouldn't even be happening." Which leads into the next & probably worst issue within the movie.

Consistency: There is none. The main character's durability & endurance is however much is necessary. You look at some of the things he gets knocked out, and then all of a sudden he becomes a walking tank at other times. The reason this is such a big issue is once again due to immersion. I can't bring myself to enjoy the fight scene if the whole time I feel that the main character got a magical power up straight from his ass. Both of The Raid m movies, both the John Wick movies, and the Killzone series (underrated but highly recommend for a good action fix) never have that issue. Everything makes sense because it feels like the character could have actually done that, due to proper setup & characterization.

Action: I do have to give praise to the action & choreography, from a technical standpoint. If I'm viewing it without considering the attachment of the stupidity of the narrative, they're done very well. As others have said, it's violent & gritty (for an action movie, most certainly not the most violent movie you'll have seen in 2018 if you enjoy gore & seek it out) which creates an impressive wow-factor. Once again though, I'm unable to appreciate it as much due to how dumb the situation itself is.

Misc Issues: This movie had poor use of background music. The music in most action flicks is very subtle, as it should be. But when it's not there it, as with everything in this movie, detracts from the immersion. The camerawork was good majority of the time but it betrayed itself often. There were points when you could literally see someone standing in the background not doing anything. Compared to the fluidity of both of The Raid movies, it was sad. Enemies almost always came one at a time, & you could feel that.

Pros: The only reason I would say to watch this movie is for the fight scenes with one particular character. The motorcycle woman, as I've dubbed her( she's never named as far as I recall), had the best action scenes by far. Far superior to the main character's, and this is mostly due to the fact that her character was one of the few that were consistent. Everything she was capable of doing was believable because they did proper setup for her. The main character was just so damn inconsistent in his power scaling that you wanted to shoot him yourself.

Anyways, if you read all this I'm impressed. At the end of the day, as always, you should take a look for yourself & see what you think. If you're able to get around all that you might find some joy in the movie. But personally, I would recommend against it strongly.

Henchmen are just an extra, an extra who appear to glorify the hero. Their life will last for around 10 second, if they are lucky, maybe its just their bone, if not, you know it.

If you love THE RAID, THE RAID REDEMPTION & HEADSHOT. You will surely love this one. It have more action and more brutal than the first 3. Its a freaking bloodfest right from the beginning till the end. They only talk for around 10 minutes and the balance of 100 minutes is what we came for. Be careful with machete around your house, they are the main actor. Big or small.

p/s: the best fight is not the final fight, but the girl fight. Kudos to Estelle,Al Rashid and the unbelievable Sastro.

In a time when most movies are dulled down to appeal to the masses, along comes "The Night Comes For Us" and sticks two fingers up to the PC brigade and delivers a truly mesmeric film for junkies of the action and martial arts genres.

As many have already drawn parallels to the fantastic Raid franchise, this probably tops both in brutality and action.

The film is bloody, brutal and well over the top but this what a film like this should be about. You know what to expect when Iko Uwais is in the cast but this film is not just about him,Joe Taslim amongst many others deliver a film that will have you literally blown away with what they have laid out in front of you.

The body count is massive and there's enough bones snapped, heads smashed and blood to satisfy the most ardent of gore loving merchants.

I can't recommend this enough and it is simply an absolute triumph of movie. It is worth paying a years subscription to Netflix alone on the back of this movie.

I love all the films coming out of this part of the world, they do it a million times better than anything Hollywood can muster..

    Just watch it.

This will easily go down to the best Martial arts movie I've seen in the last 5 years or so. Iko Uwais and Co. did there parts perfectly. Am very thrilled of the ideal of brilliants of the choreography *madness* This was truly a gem not only the action sequences spectacular, and I iterate spectacular but the story line and acting as well as screenplay was very tastefully done.

This film should, by all rights, reset the bar for the standards of Martial arts films from now on. It was simply an outstanding film in every way I think a lot of people will like it.

Wow, I'm only giving this 9 stars because nothing's perfect. This is a knockout and gonzo film with actors who are, by now, old friends. Give it up to Indonesia for the finest world-building fight and kill action movies of this decade.

Director Timo Tjahjanto really made a great one here . . . A perfect companion to The Raid movies.

My first thought when I saw this one released: New Iko Uwais movie? Must see!

And boy did I get more and more disappointed the longer the movie went on. "The Raid" was a good example of really good mass fight choreography where 20 vs. 1 didn't mean 19 people waiting and it actually being twenty 1 on 1 fights. This movie is the PERFECT example of twenty opponents awaiting their turn to get slaughtered. There is not a lot of finesse, this movie is all about gore and maximum brutallity, leaving the "good" guys shredded to pieces and continue fighting in an absolutely unbeliebavble state of injury.

If you are able to COMPLETELY suspend ANY disbelief, your totally fine with oponents in fight scenes doing the pause after one move until the good guy destroys them routine, mass fights with bad guys attack one after another, and don't need any kind of story when it's a good gorefest, then this is for you.

That said... Purely as a gorefest it is fantastic! Blood and guts everywhere, bodyparts are getting cut off, places get totally trashed, tons of broken bones in almost every scene, more cuts and slices than in any butcher shop - oh wait, except for the butcher shop scene in this one :) - and did I mention BLOOD, BLOOD, BLOOD? For the artistic and imaginative gorefest it is, I gave it 5 stars

Alas I expected more of a martial arts movie featuring Iko Uwais having seen his other movies with way better and more believable choreography, so this was a huge disappointment for me. And for my taste they were trying so very much too hard to make this look and feel like one of the classic heroic bloodshed movies John Woo did in his earlier career, going waaay over the top with it, there were moments I felt a bit digusted at that.

Bottom line: Great for gorelovers, painful if suspension of disbelief doesn't come easy for you, so and so for martial arts fans.

This is my fifth Indonesian action movie. Unfortunately, all of them have one problem: no heart to the story. I can't relate to the characters, I don't care if they live or die, I don't even know their motivation.

This movie, like the other Indonesian action movies, rely too much on blood and gore. The plot, pfft, out the window.

WATCH THIS MOVIE IT's WORTH FOR THE ACTION AND GORE Yes when i heard the name iko uwais new movie is out on netflix i just jumped into it cause even though story is weak his actions his enough to steer through and i was kinda disappointed in this .not here to spoil the show but here's how it goes if you have seen these movies headshot (DIR & PRO made this flick) ,raid 1&2 you might have seen how quick and agile group of minion thugs wielding machete are ..but here they made it like some sort of horde waiting for the cast( not here to spoil) to make the next move and yeah to be killed eventually but here is the catch after 1 or 2 fighting scene you can see that they made these cast like meat shield absorbing more than 3 or 7 maybe even more death blows only to be killed by enemy boss Eventually sigh:( it bugs me the most to say that it was like some martial art tournament game strong vs strong which we could forsee it already with a story so vague i cant expect more . GORE PART: only word i can say is daaaaaaaaam and brutal junks of flesh flying & lying everywhere coupled with vicious martial arts and weaponry which is a huge + and a treat to watch if you love gore of course.

I really cant hate this movie and it's hard to see martial arts flicks like these so yeah do watch it..

Countless brutal kills, tons of blood has been spilled, and you will never expect that to come!

The Night Comes For Us i an Indonesian film directed by Timo, who call himself a genuine horror guy. So you already knew what you about to see in this film and what Timo is up to . But it all works out pretty well! It's pretty much one of the most exciting, facinating brutal action movie ever made. I love just how The Raid and The Raid 2 is just a beginning to an opening for another movie like TNCFU to emerge from the uderground to finally punch you harder in the face, harder than ever!! Well i'm not saying this movie is better than The Raid. It's almost TNCFU and The Raid is in the same level of awesomeness. But regardless i absolutely love this movie, and i will watch it again later. It's already came out yesterday so, quit being a whimp and go watch it!!!!!!!

Clearly,This movie is one of the best action movie in Indonesia (Along with The Raid 1&2).The action scenes are wonderfull. The tense, the pain, the martial art fight,Everything is wonderfull. But as far as it goes,"The Action Part"of this movie is the only thing that good. The Story and The Character Development are quite well or maybe i can said"Alright".I mean i love the fighting and action scenes on this movie, but from the story point of view,I prefer The Raid 2 has the best script and story(For Indonesian Movie). Still,This is a recommended movie for those of you who loves Brutality Action Movies.

My God!!!! I want to give spoilers but just will not because you MUST watch this movie if you are a fan of action. I've seen several of the Indonesian based actors before, many legit martial artist turned actors, and the choreography is insane and brilliant!

Graphic. It is VERY graphic. But that lends to the realism of what really happens to a human body when it's cut, beaten, shot, ran over etc!

The story line is actually REAL good. Not just a beat em up, shoot em up plot with no substance. I applaud the actors and director for making a martial arts masterpiece that will surely be discussed decades from now as one of the best.

The movie got my attention cause it has 2 main actors from The Raid. But in the end, it make me disappointed. Poor storyline, the main character has so many decisions which make no sense, moreover there are some other characters come out from nowhere. The action part is a cheap version of The Raid. Totally wasted my time.

Don't waste your time on this total nonsense, which takes TWO hours of nonstop unnecessary bloodshed and violence!

So the scenario... meh nothing interesting... A world-class killer becomes friendly, is chased down by his former colleagues, fights an old friend... saves a little girl... Seen this before. Barely any character development; the characters are a mixture of the Raid with Kill Bill. The acting's average. All the budget went for the thousands of fake blood and CGI that they used. Fights were too long, too bloody, too unreal, like literally 90% of the movie is blood, sweat, and more blood.

    Pass.

Without a doubt, "The Night Comes For Us" sets a new standard in ultra-violence. The filmmakers probably had to take out a serious loan just to cover the gallons of squibs used in this production.

What made this film worthwhile wasn't just the horrific splatter scenes, of which there were many, but the interesting martial arts choreography and camera movements used as well. The general acting was pretty good, too. About the only bad thing I can say about "The Night Comes For Us" is the unrealistic amount of battering and gun shots characters need to take before they drop dead. Other than that, this flick was worth every penny put into its production.

I just bumped into this movie accidentally and didn't know this was from the same cast as the raid, the raid 2 and headshot. I was surprised again how bloody and real Indonesian action movies can be. If you like action movies, this can't be missed.

The Mandarin Chinese spoken in this movie just sounds so weird.
