When a city burns, everyone has a story to tell. After the Baltimore uprising in April, 2015 following the death of Freddie Gray in police custody, I wanted to hear some of those stories and also stories about the larger issue of race in Baltimore. Shot throughout the city, Baltimore Black & White is a documentary comprised of interviews and footage of neighborhoods in Baltimore. I began this film with the belief that if I interviewed a wide spectrum of people, I would hear compelling stories about race. I had no idea. Powerful and moving, surprising and poignant, the stories together cast one more beam of light on something that has been impinging on all of our spirits for hundreds of years.
