Hielke and Sietse Klinkhamer reunite with their old friend Louw Vrolijk when he and his mother come to visit Lenten. Later, Mother Nature strikes at the heart of Friesland when an earthquake makes the ground go vibrate and Hielke and Sietse have to rescue their father Heit and friend Gerben who got trapped in the forge on fire. When a golden nugget appears above the soil in the aftermath, criminal brain Jantje Bril wants to steal it and forces Hielke and Sietse to drive their Kameleon as the getaway boat.

This movie had a large production delay of 11 months.

The extended version of the movie shows a special "making of" with funny outtakes behind the end credits.

Three actors from the same family (Ron Rooseboom, Arjen Rooseboom and Sjoerd Rooseboom) are also playing three characters from one family ('Miller Dijkstra', 'Kees Dijkstra' and 'Young Kees')

Thom Sandstra was a true fan of the Kameleon movies and books and was suffering a brain tumor for most of his life. The producers granted one of his last wishes to ever play a role in a Kameleon movie. In september 2012 (5 years after the movie premiered) he passed away.

Despite playing a fictional character, Douwe Veenstra actually worked as a police officer in real time, before retiring in 2013.

Arjen Rooseboom came up with the idea of the flashback sequence, featuring a younger Hielke, Sietse, Kees and Louw, when he and Bart Spiekstra were sitting on a terrace and accidentally met Jeroen Steenbergen, Stefan Steenbergen and Paul van der Pijl there, along with their parents, brother and sisters who all play minor supporting roles in the sequence.

Cees de Jong had a heavy eye surgery, just one week before shooting began and played with contact lenses.

While filming the unfinished scenes almost a year later, Björn Lodder had his hair cut and was forced to wear a wig.

Originally, Koen van der Donk and Jos van der Donk didn't want to do the part where Arjen Rooseboom knocks off their caps with rocks, because then the audience would see their straggly hair. However, during the fight with Koenraad Hazelhoff, their caps kept falling off each take and they reluctantly accepted it in the editing process.
