Although this episode was entertaining in and of itself, and shows that computerized implants can be abused by the criminal element to force a person (Lt. Fredricks) to do unspeakable things, it is interesting that an apparent temporal discontinuity is present in the form of the recently deceased Lt. James Brody... Recall in episode "Spindrift", where Lt. Hendricks is taken prisoner, Lt. Brody dies during the rescue attempt... Then we have the episode "Second Chances" where the ship goes back in time (Lt. Brody still dead in this episode) to prevent the annihilation of Earth from nuclear missiles during the Cuban Missile Crises... They succeed and Earth is safe, and they return to their own time...

Fast forward to this episode, Brainlock... Lt. Brody seems to have pulled a miraculous Lazarus on us... He's back alive and kicking...

Could this have been an effect of time travel from the episode "Second Chances"? Butterfly effect? Maybe the crew left something out of place back in 1962 and the global effect of it was such to keep Brody from dying? I don't know, but as they say, no one really ever dies in science fiction...

BRAINLOCK is a straight copy of THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, the last time an episode would openly copy the story and feel of another movie (they did it a lot in season two). As a low budget thriller this doesn't outstay its welcome, and the cast have a chance to work their ticket.

When Lt.Henderson is arrested after saving two orphans, and is charged for kidnapping ,captain Oliver Hudson suggest to rescue her. After the deal with president of Macronisia falls through and diplomacy fail, Henderson is sentenced to death. Lt. Oliver Brody volunteers for mission to rescue Henderson, because he did not protect her during the rescue of the orphans. Henderson is proposed to become presidents mistress but she refuses, and eventually she gains trust of a young Micronesian guard. With freelance people in disguise, Captain with Brody and team rescues Henderson, but Brody and her guard dies. Henderson is full of regret, but captain comforts her. A really intense episode. A trial scene was terrifying. When Henderson started shaking after sentencing I got chills. There was some really good acting when Henderson said she was afraid to die and of course Brody dieing was totally unexpected. Honestly that was the best scene in all season three. But this was not, again easy to watch. Michael York as a president of Micronesia was incarnation of pure evil. Who knew he could act so good as a villain.
