"Berserk" touches on the subject of mental illness, as Johnny Yuma's commanding officer during the war returns home a changed man. Matt Dunsen (Tom Drake, later seen in "The Last Drink") is now a sheriff, his deputy (Dan Barton) reporting that he's been edgy lately, and when Matt returns with the corpse of his own son in tow he believes he's still fighting the war, taking no prisoners and even shooting his old friend Johnny's shooting hand. After a repair job by Doc Jons (Arthur Peterson, later seen in "The Executioner"), Yuma offers to help the deputy try to take Matt alive, for the sake of his wife (K.T. Stevens) and young son Andy (Craig Cooke). Johnny sneaks into the stable where Matt has hidden himself, and listening to his former commanding officer, is convinced that he can be helped if the townsmen don't kill him first. Among the residents are Robert Brubaker (previously seen in "The Captive of Temblor"), William Henry (later seen in "Ben White"), and George Becwar (fifth of seven), while an unrecognizable Arthur Peterson would be best remembered as The Major on the late 70s sitcom SOAP.
