Short summary

A murder in a convenience store leads Shawn and Gus to believe that the victim contracted a deadly experimental virus, and not only seek to find who's behind it but believe they also hold the cure to it.

The part of the eccentric Dr. Reidman was written with Crispin Glover in mind. Glover himself was offered the role, but turned it down.

Pineapple Spotting: There were two pineapples in this episode. One was behind Ginger, the other was a decoration at the hotel that Shawn and Gus walked by.

This episode features Judd Nelson. In Season 3, Episode 2, Shawn dresses as Judd Nelson's character from Breakfast Club.

Spot the Pineapple: one can be seen behind Ginger in the flashback, and another wooden pineapple decoration, one is on the bowl in the second flash back, and on is behind Shawn and Gus at the hotel bar. Shawn also asks for a club soda with three pineapple wedges.

The Mr. Bob Dobalina reference is not a reference to Zilch its a reference to Del tha Funkee Homosapien. This is more logical due to the fact that Sean grew up in the late 80's early 90's and often makes other references to other underground and popular rappers from his childhood, and the song would have debuted when he was in high school. And even though The Monkees would be possible its less likely due to his character's taste in music.

The Mr. Dobalina quote could also be in reference to the song of the same name by artist Del The Funky Homosapien.

When Shawn and Gus are talking to Jules, Shawn says, "You know me: Mr. Non-Judgmental." Gus responds, "They also call him Mr. Dobalina." Shawn says, "Mr. Bob Dobalina." "Bob Dobalina, Mr. Bob Dobalina" is the name that Peter Tork (of The Monkees (1966)) repeats over and over in the song "Zilch".

When Shawn and Gus are in the hospital in hazmat suits questioning Melissa, Shawn keeps pretending like he's in zero gravity as if in an astronaut suit.
