'The Scoop' begins with a wounded man trying to get away from his attacker. He finds temporary sanctuary in a University dorm, where he hides a letter in a mail box. He is then found by his attacker who kills him. Jeff is you typical college senior. He finds the letter in his mailbox and sees that it is addressed to the Vice President of the University. Thinking he might get a reward, he decides to return it. At the President's office he meets a young secretary who he has sex with, only to find out she's sixteen. He runs out of her room only to be attacked by a Cowboy who wants to know what his angle in all this is. 'The Scoop' is about Jeff trying to find out what the answer to this big mystery is. He must also deal with a budding relationship with a girl named April, the antics of his insensitive best friend, and a room mate from hell in this character driven comedy/mystery.

The cast and crew were either students, relatives of students, or former employees at the University at Buffalo.

Melissa Carr was cast as Suzanne the week before principal photography began.

Budget was less then $220. The money went to tape stock, costumes, props, and location releases. The cameras were small MiniDV cameras and the lights came from the film school's equipment room.

Although this film was made by students it was not made for a class project. The film school had no involvement in the production besides renting out some small equipment.

The final movie and the original script are almost identical. The only differences are the cowboy was supposed to appear at Todd's house for a quick joke that was cut and there was supposed to be a small scene involving a small protest on campus.

The character of Manzarnewski is said to be inspired by a real life used car salesman.
