Short summary

This multi-CD set takes fans on a journey through the first 4 years of KISS's rise to fame,as one one the 1970s wildly popular rock and roll groups. Via vintage clips dating back to 1973,fans will see rare music videos, live TV appearances and full length concerts and other clips.

Had same management as Alice Cooper in the mid 1970s.

Gene Simmons save Ace Frehkey's life by noticing and knocking Ace off the electrified handrails the band had in one of their stage setups. Ace had his uncovered left hand on the stair rail while touching the string of his guitar which at the point in time was only uncovered. This caused Ace to have his muscles literally lock up while a serious amount of electricity was flowing through his body. Gene saw this and just ran into him breaking the connection and saved Ace's life.

Gene Simmons stopped putting his hair up in a top pony tail after his hair caught fire during his usual fire breathing gimmick. A roadie saw this long before Gene even knew his hair wa in fire and dunked a bucket of water over his head. The precise reason was due to a tiny spark of flame went backwards and caught fire from all the AquaNet he had in his hair.

Peter across was the only band member NOT to where platform shoes during concerts except when he came out to take a bow.

Last original member to join th band was Ace Frehley after alter Criss joined a short while earlier.

Original members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss both were in and out of the bands lineup 3 times and not asked to begin the farewell tour.

Gene Simmons met his long time live together partners since 1983 and wife since 2011 at the Playboy Mansion in California. According to them both, it was Shannon who made the first move in the grotto at the Mansion. However, Gene has always been unfaithful to her and for reasons of her own she stayed with him.

KISS was the first band the become fully endorsed by both Gibson and Pearl. Gibson supplied all the guitars and basses and a pearl supplied all the drums and hardware.

In 2009 KISS live Concert made it in as the loudest concert at the time at 136db. And since 1db is TWICE AS LOUD doubling each 1 point higher, that volume could have caused much permanent hearing damage. To give you and idea how loud that is 120db is listed at the threshold of pain and inner ear damage level and 130db is the volume standing underneath a 747 taking off at full throttle! The band Man 'O War holds the record for most concerts at over 130db the top was 139db during a soundcheck.

Although I'm not a member of the infamous KISS Army,I have a brother who is a 30 year fan of the group (one line-up or another). Without his input and getting me up to speed on KISS when we were younger,I'd most likely still be thinking New Wave rules! A 1976 Cobo Hall concert was previewed last fall (October 2006) in very limited and selected AMC movie locations around the U.S. It was an incredible experience seeing it on a big wide movie screen because it highlighted what was and still is,so great about KISS in the 70s in the first place.

There are more concerts along with the extra, separate DVD included.

The DVD's have clips as far back as 1973 (although the first ones are a bit shaky. We are treated to rare concerts (some on B & W videotape). Even when not in color,KISS's performances make it worth it. We get to see the guys at their young, wild, crazy and energetic best! Paul Stanley,as the star on his eye indicates, shows what being a rock star is all about,Gene does too and truly becomes The Beast on stage (even igniting his own hair in one show),Peter Criss and Ace finally can be seen as the rockers that they truly are. Instead of the secondary members they've been portrayed as over the years.

We even get long shelved TV appearances from the original "ABC In Concert" from 1974 and their debut on "The Mike Douglas Show" with Gene looking his scary & wickedest ever! There's also plenty of rare TV ads and actual "music-videos" made in the early days. The videos are as cleaned up as they could make them (some sat so long there's no correcting small glitches). There's also a separate DVD-Extra concert included. So even if you're not a fan (unless you hate them, rock and roll or loud music in general) I urge anyone to get this set while it's out there. This is an incredibly well assembled collection of 1970s rock history. KISS filmed and video-taped virtually everything then and I know the fans are so very glad they did.

10 stars for these four stars and the best of their beginnings, that we can now see right before our eyes. You wanted the best, you got the best...KISS! (END)
