The character of Valeria Velez is based on Virginia Vallejo. Unlike her TV counterpart Virginia Vallejo is still alive today living in the USA under asylum. She was taken out of Columbia after agreeing to testify against the Cali cartel in 2006 leading to the prosecution of the Orejuela brothers who are currently serving a 30 year sentence in the US.
