Short summary

Sayid, Kate, Jack, and Juliet arrives back at the camp of survivors, and the group does not accept the presence of Juliet. Jack protects Juliet, while she recalls her arrival to the island and her relationship with Ben. When Claire gets sick, Juliet advises that Claire was the subject of an experiment with pregnant women carried by her, and she brings the necessary vaccine to inoculate and heal Claire. Later, Juliet recalls how she first arrived on the island three years earlier, her first meeting with Ben and the Others, and about the last assignment Ben gave to her a couple of days ago.

The Dharma logo in the show is encircled by symbols known as "Trigrams". There are eight Trigrams altogether, each representing an aspect of life. One of the Trigrams can be seen on the tower of the submarine as Juliet is standing on it. This Trigram represents the 'front door', the beginning or your life path, and career.

Possible anagrams / meanings for "Herarat Aviation" - Earhart Aviation (as in famous Lost aviator Amelia), Her a Rat (to describe/foreshadow Juliet), and Earth Variation A.

The song playing on the radio when Juliet arrives to meet Alpert in the first flashback is "Downtown" by Petula Clark; the same song she was listening to the morning of the day the plane crashed on the island.

I think "One of Us" deserves a slightly higher reputation than it currently has. I cannot think of anything about the episode that is weak. The flashback shows us how Juliet got to the island and goes further in exploring her experiences on the island, particularly her relationship with Ben (which would be expanded on later in "The Other Woman", a far weaker episode in every way). The flashbacks also reveal some important aspects of how the Others lived before the plane crashed, what some of their experiments dealt with, how they gathered information, and Juliet's struggle with life on the island, her desire to leave.

On the island the drama starts on a low scale with Juliet arriving back at the camp and Claire falling ill, but slowly as we begin to see the bigger picture we begin to see the strength of the writing for this episode and the wonderful way it was structured. Ultimately it ends up a fascinating exploration of power and trust on the island, and the final revelation, technically part of a flashback, makes for an excellent ending. On-island flashbacks can either be terrific or underwhelming, but this episode is right up there with "The Brig" for me, though I prefer that episode for other reasons.

"One of Us" is a brilliant episode with a particularly neat narrative structure and some very good answers and plot advancement. The performances are also terrific as is Jack Bender's direction. A fine episode indeed, and part of the tremendous second half of season 3, possibly the best run of episodes the series has ever had.

The 16th episode of Lost 3 is quiet amazing! I really liked the way how so many unanswered questions are finally ... answered! So you can't deny the significance of this episode. Juliet's flashbacks are really well-written and touching as well. I enjoyed these hard decisions our main characters have to make in this thrilling episode. The cliffhanger at the end is really mean and now I'm gonna watch the next episode... ;-) At the beginning I was a little bit disappointed of the third season, but now Lost is back! Gosh, I can't remember a series where I just like EVERY single main character in it. Of course there are some exceptions, but that's really rare. I love Lost!

In "One of Us", I was completely disappointed with the behavior of Jack, trusting on the evil and manipulative Juliet. I still do not understand how the balanced Jack could change his judgment and bring Juliet to the breast of their community without asking explanations about The Others. The last remembrance of Juliet of her meeting with Ben promises another great episode on the next week. See you in seven days. My vote is nine.

Note: On 10 April 2013, I saw this episode again on DVD.

In the last many episodes I haven't actually seen forward for the next episode, as I always did in the 2 first seasons. But know Lost is back! I really look forward to see which side Julia choose. Is their any who have an opinion about this? I think she decide to be with jack and the survivals.

Another question is what's happening to Loke (one of my favorite characters) Is he become one of the others?

And my last question: What about Charlie and death? Do Anybody think he will survive on the island, or do Desmond have right about Charlie soon will die?

Look forward to discuss it! :-)

When 'Lost' was in its prime, it was must-watch television. Remember first watching it, found it remarkably easy to get into, was hooked from the start and was on Season 3 by the end of one week. The general consensus is that the final season is a disappointment and cannot disagree.

Alongside "Not in Portland", "Flashes Before Your Eyes", "Enter 77" and "The Man from Tallahassee", "One of Us" for me is one of the best Season 3 episodes up to this point of the season. Also feel that it is one of the best of Season 3 in general, one of the best episodes of 'Lost' up to this point and among the best of the show in general. Every aspect of "One of Us" is brilliant and with all the trademarks for a 'Lost' classic.

The episode has pretty much everything that 'Lost' is all about. It's taut and thought-provoking, also providing some answers. It has an emotional core in the intriguing and at times heartfelt flashback that adds a good deal to Juliet rather than going round in circles. It has tense moments also with Ben.

On top of all that, it advances characters, shows plot progression rather than repeating itself or being filler and there is some nice foreshadowing. The on-island events are indeed enthralling, with a superb mix of mystery and characterisation and how it all relates to one another (one of the most successful episodes of the season to do this, the other being "The Man from Tallahassee") and the character interaction keeps one on the edge of their seat.

Can't fault the performances, particularly from Elizabeth Mitchell in a very deeply felt performance. Michael Emerson never disappoints as Ben.

Nor the stylishness and atmosphere of the visuals, nor the effective use of music, taut writing and the tightly controlled direction (one of the best of the season and perhaps of the show).

In summary, brilliant and classic 'Lost'. 10/10 Bethany Cox
