Nicklaus part is essentially the best and Joseph Morgan does a great job portraying him. As to the vampire diary's Damon's part is essentially the best part and he is the best man to portray him and looking and those beautiful blue eyes don't hurt either, since his hair is darker it brings his eyes out more then when he was on lost.
