Kiss: X-treme Close-Up (1992) watch online HD

I recently purchased this DVD for my collection to replace my worn-out VHS tape and I have to say from a documentary point of view this is the best video about the band released so far, before or since. Founding members Gene "Demon" Simmons (bassist/vocalist) and Paul "Rockstar" Stanley (rhythm guitarist/vocalist) give their 2 cents about the history of KISS, chronicling their early days in Wicked Lester up to their 1992 Revenge Tour. Lots of interesting inside stories are confirmed by various band members, in between music videos, along with plenty of archived interviews from over the last 20 years that provide fascinating tidbits detailing the history of the band's global success. Very entertaining to watch overall and if you are a KISS fan then its a must-have for your DVD collection. (The DVD version pairs with the "KISS Konfidential" concert movie as a bonus!) Overall it's well put-together compared to the earlier, immaturely made "KISS-Exposed".

Kiss have always been suckers for merchandising products, be it coffins or action figures, but one thing they commonly spew out are documentaries. In what would later inspire Metallica's "Some Kind of Monster", Kiss' documentaries told the history of the band from beginning to present, giving the bands thoughts of the past from that current perspective. With so many Kiss documentaries, it's interesting to see the mindset they had at different points in their career.

This documentary was made in the early 90s, not too long after the death of the great drummer Eric Carr and the entrance of Eric Singer into the band. With Gene focused on the music once again, it shows us a Kiss band in a time of rethinking what it means to be in Kiss, and in the end this rethinking phase would lead to a reunion to the band members.

Bruce and Eric seemed to be excited and happy to be in the band, Gene seemed to finally be coming to earth (but still being an asshole) and Paul seemed to be thinking about the band's image in this documentary. It's clear after watching this that Gene and Paul are the one's in control of the band, and they have no problem trashing the former members of the band in this documentary. Gene even went so far as to give Paul credit for Ace's logo, showing that some bad blood still remained at this time.

Overall this movie will provide you with laughs, videos, classic stories and generally interesting drama involving one of rock and roll's most charismatic bands. The different characters, the lineups, the song experimentation and the crappy movie: all here, from the point of view from the pre-reunion Kiss.
