Short summary

While rescuing a stricken space shuttle Ralph becomes hyper-magnetized resulting his being attracted to all things metal.

The space shuttle was designed to land back on earth even if the engine were not working. The principle is the same as if a seagull is gliding down to land.

The real Space Shuttle Columbia (represented in this show) was destroyed and 7 Crewmembers killed on February 1 2003 on Re-Entry and Landing. Heat Shield Tiles which protect shuttle during re-entry were destroyed during ascent when foam from Fuel Tank hit the leading edge of Left Wing.

Ralph speculates on the Space Shuttle's weight. The Shuttles weighed 165,000 pounds empty. Although it would not have the following on re-entry, the external tank weighed 78,100 pounds empty, the two solid rocket boosters weighed 185,000 pounds empty each, and each solid rocket booster held 1.1 million pounds of fuel.

The crash coordinates of location of 35.20N 119.01W are said to be in the middle of downtown Bakersfield while the actual coordinates are actually about 20 miles south.

Patrick Hasburgh had a great story and the teleplay is hilarious as Ralph has to deal with essentially having become a human magnet. The 4th wall is broken at one point in the episode with Ralph saying "he can deal with it". William Katt played this whole episode perfectly. This is creative storytelling at its best and the deep character-based writing was what made this episode one of my favorites!
