The Photographic Convention Of The United KIngdom, a photographers' society, held its thirteenth annual meeting in Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England between Monday, 10 July - Friday 14 July, 1899. On Friday, 14 July 1899, a large party of the conventioneers went on a day-trip on a steamer called the "Avonmore" from Gloucester along the River Severn to Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire and back again. As passengers disembarked from the boat onto the quay at Tewkesbury, they were filmed from the quayside by Robert W. Paul, who was a member of the party. Many of the conventioneers passed near enough to the camera to be recognised when the film was screened.
