After leaving an audition to be one of Tony's two new assistants, one of the positions which she does get, Laurie Allmont is almost killed in a burning elevator, but is saved by Tony. Beyond being shaken by the incident, Laurie thinks nothing else of it. But when Laurie almost drowns in rehearsing one of Tony's underwater illusions, Tony knows that another near death incident is no coincidence even for someone as accident prone as Laurie says she is.
