Short summary

"Project Runway" winner Jay McCarroll heads to New York City to market his own fashion line.
"Project Runway" winner Jay McCarroll heads to New York City to market his own fashion line.

When Jay bumps into Austin at Mood Fabrics, viewers were suspect that it is too coincidental and staged. The fact is Jay did indeed bump into Austin (Mood is a magnet for designers in NYC), but the producers needed Austin's permission to film. Thus the initial "hello" is a bit comically forced (ie. faking it for the camera), but the conversation that ensued is entirely genuine.

This spin-off of Project Runway is...god help me...compelling! And it compels in a much more substantial way than the series which made Jay McCarroll famous to begin with. Don't get me wrong--I think Project Runway is great--it's the highly evolved, sophisticated stage that I'd always hoped reality television would attain. But Project Jay gives us the human angle from the post-reality TV experience--an angle that we deeply desire but rarely see on the screen, except in distorted, cagey versions. The beauty of Project Jay is that this post-TV glimpse isn't burlesque, sad, or psychotic. The documentary's appeal is largely due to the humanity and wit(bantering, quick, hard-edged and sur-real) of its subject. Jay McCarroll could be your best friend, if you're anybody with an ounce of soul and creativity. It's that kind of affinity that makes Project Jay worth knowing.

Pleeease, Bravo, bring Jay back for an extended run! I would submit that appeal to Bravo personally--except they don't yet have a channel for responding to this show.

Let me start by saying, I've never written one of these comments before but after watching this show I felt compelled to do so.

I loooooooooooooved this! I wish they would make it a weekly celeb reality show...it would definitely be the best one (and one that would actually be worth watching!).

I love his sense of humor! I can't wait to see more of Jay and I know if you watch this you'll completely agree.

The story of him moving from home to New York on his quest for fashion greatness is interesting in so many ways...the people, the fashion, the locations, etc....It would definitely make a great weekly show because he makes even the littlest things interesting and comical in the "Jay" kinda way. I just loved it and want more, more, more!!!!!

(Note: this isn't really spoiling, because if you were going to watch Project Jay, you'd have to have been a fan of Season One Project Runway, and if you're not, then why are you reading this? besides, anyone who knows what they're doing already knows what events take place in Project Jay.)

So, anyway. Here's the deal. If you saw Project Runway (season 1), and you liked what you saw - especially Jay McCarroll, the winner of Project Runway - then you should see this. Jay is funny, and smart, and one hell of a designer. In this hour-long documentary-esquire show, you will see many, many memorable faces from season one, parts of his home life, his adjustment to living in NYC, and last (but certainly not least): the much-discussed Heidi Klum awards show gown. I say this to you: YOU MUST WATCH. It made my day, and it'll make yours too.
