Short summary

HENRi is an epic science fiction short film starring Keir Dullea (2001: A Space Odyssey) and Margot Kidder (Superman). Hundreds of years in the future, a derelict spaceship - controlled and powered by a human brain - floats aimlessly in the outer reaches of space. Trapped in the cold metal prison of the vessel, the brain begins to experience disjointed images of its former life - images it cannot understand. Becoming increasingly self-aware, and yet unable to move, the brain devises a plan to build itself a mechanical body from parts of the ship. Maybe then it will understand the images it is seeing. Maybe then it will feel alive.

I didn't know what to expect from this short. After seeing posts on Facebook by the Philip K Dick Film Festival, including a trailer, I decided to buy it online and just finished watching it and the "making of" which was just as interesting. I have to admit that this is only the second online movie purchase I've made.

For hard Sci-Fi fans, especially devotees of 2001, this is a must have short in your collection. A few of the miniatures shots are less than perfect, but overall the suspension of disbelief holds.

I have to say, without Keir Dullea this piece would lose much of its impact. The dichotomy of the relationships from 2001 (Bowman/HAL) and HENRi (Calvin/HENRi) would still be present, but having the same actor that played Dave Bowman is a true stroke of genius. The scene with Margot Kidder sets up the ending. I hope a feature length film is in the works already to set up the mission and the events in this short!
