Dino (Faro Como) is an elderly man and widower. He lives alone by the Sicilian seaside, where only a photograph of his late wife keeps him company. One morning, he decides to go fishing to pass the time. So goes to the nearby shore and throws a line into the sea. He waits a while, until something very peculiar happens. The water starts bubbling and something bites the hook, pulling at the fishing line with unexpected strength. Dino struggles to pull his catch out of the water, but finally he succeeds. Only to find that what he has pulled out of the water is definitely not a fish.
