Short summary

Rodney McKay thinks he knows who will be the next leader of the Atlantis expedition - himself. He's heard that they will likely appoint someone with a scientific background and who better than himself than himself to fill the job. He is therefore taken aback when Col. Samatha Carter is named to the post. Ronon Dex meanwhile is happy to find three of his old Satedan friends alive and well. They would like nothing better than to have him join their fight against the Wraith, against whom they seem to have had some success. He would like to bring them to Atlantis but Col. Carter refuses, which he takes as a personal affront. Ronon decides he's going to leave Atlantis but when Sheppard's team goes on a joint mission with the Satedans against the Wraith, Ronon realizes something is very wrong.

Jason Momoa covered up the tattoo on his left forearm in previous episodes, but the writers decided to include him getting the tattoo to explain its presence.

Beginning with this episode, before they were able to fully integrate Rachel Luttrell's pregnancy into the series, the crew filmed her from varying angles to hide her mid-section (from the sternum up, from behind, or in shadow), as well as had her wearing loose-fitting tops, holding objects in front of her mid-section, or in the case of action scenes, used a body or stunt double.

When Colonel Carter is unpacking in her new quarters, you can see a picture of General O'Neill.

The dialog between Samantha Carter and Tealc before she leaves the SGC to take command of Atlantis, is an emotional exchange that mirrors the real-life ending of the show Stargate - Kommando SG-1 (1997) and Carter continuing on "Stargate Atlantis", breaking up SG-1.

With Samantha Carter now filling the shoes of Elizabeth Weir, there's a return to business for the Atlantis regulars.

This is a satisfying episode with the return of the always-threatening, life-sucking Wraith posing a problem once more.

"Reunion" is a chance for Jason Momoa to demonstrate his acting talents and he delivers a great performance here. Dex is an interesting character and Momoa really makes the most of the script. The early scene with Carter and Dex is an interesting indication of how the series may progress. New characters interacting means new dynamics and Carter's presence will result in changes to the way people operate.

While not really taking the series anywhere new, "Reunion" is a solid episode.

    8 out of 10.

I'm rewatching the show. What struck me about this episode is the production values seemed to have stepped up a notch, everything just looked better (lighting, hand held camera for fight scenes). It's also a great episode because of Jason Momoa's performance. This reminded me of Season 3 episode 3 Sateda, which again had a brilliant performance by Momoa.

The final fight scene with his fellow country-men is wonderfully choreographed and so sad at the same time. The scene also made me realise that Momoa would have been great in Avatar, the way he started the fight by tapping his thighs ala All Black dance was very Naavi! James Cameron missed a trick there!
