Short summary

"Lovely morning but cold and frosty. One would not think there was a war on." These were famous last words from Private Benjamin Elliott. As the days of war passed, the mud became thicker, lice ran faster and trench foot inflicted itself upon many. Being the lesser evils of war, such physical effects rode alongside the masses of fallen men. Standing beside his brother, Benjamin can feel his mind deteriorating, his senses failing and sheer terror bubbling inside him. With every shell, the shock ricochets through him. His former life but a distant dream - how he will recover this he does not know. He looks to George...

By coincidence this was George Johnston and Rodrig Andrisan's second film together, having shot "The Final Show" together in the same week.

During the nights between filming James Henri-Thomas and Tadhgh Barwell O'Connor were made to go to bed early and create a mind map of their characters' history together, which allowed a lot of the final scene to be improvised.

During the filming of the recovery tent scene Tadhgh Barwell O'Connor was blindfolded on entry to the tent and not told that an amputated actor was going to be stretchered in and so his reaction was genuine.
