Short summary

Isabel is an Actress. Xavier wants to be a Director. Isabel is looking for Love. Xavier is looking for the Love of his Life. Isabel is stuck on a bad relationship. Xavier is looking for one. Isabel sings while Xavier watches. Will love rule the Ocean? Or will the waves strike hard on both of them?

Before being a movie, "Ocean Blues" was a 50 minute monologue set up in Cafe 22 Theatre in Mexico City. Director Salomon Askenazi went to see the play and loved it. He approached friend Isabel, who starred in it and Xavier, who directed it, to offer the opportunity to make the movie together. They cheerfully accepted the invitation.

Part of the artistic proposal of cinematographer Rodrigo Sandoval and director Salomon Askenazi, was to frame the movie in such a way that only the faces of Isabel and Xavier could be distinguished. No other character's face shows in the film.

This was Salomon Askenazi's first feature as a director and Isaac Ezban's first feature as a producer. They managed to make the movie with only $20,000 USD. Of course, almost no one in the crew had salaries.

The film was shot in 9 days in Mexico City.

The movie portraits the real love story between Isabel and Xavier, who play themselves in the movie. That's why the dialogues were improvised, because they are re-enganging past experiences.

The soundtrack is compiled with music from the original play, and songs from indie mexican bands which the director and producer knew.

Ocean Blues was shot in Mexico City and Acapulco. When shooting at the beach, the camera got wet on a shot and didn't start working again until 2 hours later. The director slept on a beach bed to try to forget about it.
