In a stroke of diabolical genius, the makers of "After-School Special" cast a group of twentysomething actors as junior high students. Perhaps they thought this gimmick would be good for a few laughs. Instead they've inadvertently unleashed some of the most disturbing images ever seen in the history of moving pictures. To this day, I still have nightmares about junior high. I often wake up in a cold sweat after forgetting my locker combination, bringing the wrong textbook to Math class and running afoul of the 300-pound, six-foot-tall, hairy-faced resident bully. Sometimes, the only way I can force myself to crawl out of bed in the morning is by reminding myself that I'm a grown-up now and these kinds of things can't happen to me anymore. But in "After-School Special," they do happen. And if full-sized adults just like these poor b***ards can suddenly find themselves reliving the horrors of junior high, I guess there's no hope for the rest of us, either.

"After-School Special" might be a charming, funny, creepy little movie. But director Aaron Baker should still be ashamed of himself.

I have seen this film twice and really enjoyed it both times. I look forward to seeing it again sometime! It is funny yet shows what a young teen boy endures as he deals with growing up and a not so nice gym teacher. But he does find a sympathetic human-the janitor. Aaron has some funny facial expressions (as we've seen in some of his other film projects)and can be serious in a comical way. The ending is a bit of a surprise. Seeing it at the Fargo Theatre during the Fargo Film Festival was really great. If you ever get a chance to view any of his other films don't pass it up! He has a great sense of humor and a voice that sounds great on film. A big "Thumbs Up", Aaron Baker!!

Aaron Baker's "After School Special" is hilarious. In one short film, he takes all the fear and angst and insecurities of junior high and makes it funny! This is a outstading film and hopefully the flimmakers will make it available to a public that MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!!! Baker's use of a real high school and actors who are obviously older then the characters they play gives the film a really errie quality to it. But that doesn't stop the FUNNY!!! The scenes with Baker and the coach are spot on and seems to bring everyone back to a time in their adolesence when they felt inferior.

I give it 27 1/2 stars on a scale from 1 to SHAZBOT!

I love high school dramas and I sometimes wish I could magically become part of one, that I would suddenly wake up and be "Buffy" or Claire Daines in "My So Called Life". With movies like "Elle Enchanted" and TV series tending towards "The OC" as the high school standard, I have been wary of continuing my fascination. I have no problem with 28 year-olds playing high schoolers or revenge plots that rival "Kill Bill", but I need my dramas to be fun and twisted, just like high school. After seeing "After-School Special" I now dream of playing basketball on the same team as the movie's protagonist. The movie perfectly balances the off-balanced feel of high school with excellent cinematography. Thank you to the makers of "After-School Special", for a wonderful new daydream.

I saw this film at the Fargo Film Festival in 2004. The writing and cinematography was of the best I've seen for this level of filmmaking. I look forward to seeing more work from the people involved with the creation of this film. In particular I found that the plot of this movie was taking it in a direction that needed 35-45 minutes of screen time to tell. The first 50% of the story is exquisite, whereas the last 25% seems to be in a hurry to finish up. Perhaps time and budget restraints were the cause of this. It was enjoyable nonetheless
