Lulu Roman runs a roadside diner that features music sometimes sung by Kathie Lee Gifford one of the two "Honeys" in the title of this Hee Haw spinoff. The cute and bright Misty Rowe plays the "dumber" but more popular sister. Sometimes she sang as well. Better writing than on Hee Haw and king of charming as they all play host to a bevy of country music artists that when traveling by stop in and visit the cafe, and most importantly perform a song or two. Half hour of light fun and country performers.

Kathie Lee Gifford always to reference this show on "Live With Regis and Kathie". She also would reference being a "la la" girl on "Name That Tune". She would sing the notes La La instead of words for the songs.

Misty Rowe was a regular throughout the many seasons of "Hee Haw" and also had a recurring part on the early "Happy Days" and was Maid Marion in the Mel Brooks TV show "When Things Were Rotten".

A spinoff from "Hee Haw"? A-yep.

"Hee Haw Honeys" took place in a truckstop (makes perfect sense) run by Roman and Price with the "Honeys" of the title as the waitresses.

Misty Rowe was one of them and the other? KATHIE LEE GIFFORD! I mean, WOW! She was cute and all but you just don't think of her name and "Hee Haw spinoff" in the same sentence. She made the best of the situation, though, even asking her on-screen mom Roman at one point (as concerns sister Misty), "Did you take more vitamins when you had her?"

And then there was Gailiard Sartain. He was the resident busboy/bottle washer and was a hoot unto himself. I swear, I watched the show regularly just to see what fool thing he'd do next.

And the music? All wonderful; there was a gospel tinge of songs therein (mostly by Roman and Price) but as far as comparison to the original? No way, cousin.

Seven stars for a "Honey" of a show.

I remember this show being a favorite. Plenty to look at with the "Hee Haw Honeys" and, what really stands out in my mind are the antics of Gailard Sartain as Willie Billie. This series made me take notice of him from here on out.

Country corn-pone humor with plenty of 1978-era T & A, these shows ( along with the original "Hee Haw" ) were always an interesting dichotomy as they might do a gospel number and immediately follow that with a bouncy bimbo sketch borrowed from old burlesque routines. I suppose that is the whole spirit of country music itself and the contradictions that are in it as well.

Not complaining at all, mind you. It was an enjoyable show and one I wouldn't mind seeing again someday in reruns.
