The novel of the same name by John Fleming Wilson was published serially in newspapers while the film was playing in theaters. It was later published as a book, with photos from the film.

The release of chapter 8 was delayed by one week due to the illness of star Robert Z. Leonard. Thereafter, Universal filmed their serials further in advance of the release.
