The Brent mansion is expecting a visitor- Carl Boonlight (the great character actor Bernard Fox, "Bewitched"), a childhood friend of Mr. Brent's who once dated Lavinia before he moved to England. Lavinia is scheming to use Carl to make Mr. Brent jealous and edge him toward marriage. Through a misunderstanding Tammy believes that Carl is the one Lavinia is after and Cletus talks with him. He says whatever it takes to get Cletus to leave, unknowingly approving Cletus' plan to arrange marriage with Lavinia. However, Lavinia mistakes Cletus asking for Mr. Brent. This makes Mr. Brent talk about the wedding to Lavina, one she assumes is theirs. Things get even more complicated when the parson (western character actor Chubby Johnson) gets involved.

They misfired a comedic bullet by not giving much to their talented guest star Bernard Fox.
