A student is in his room having a bit of a drink and a smoke while playing with his clay figures. He gets a call from a mate and heads out for a bit to see him. While he is away though his figures come to life and decide to partake in his vices themselves.

This film starts out as a basic animation and I just thought it was going to be almost a practice film for Lambe getting his eye in with animation. However when the figure rejects a book in favour of a spliff, I thought that maybe this was the point of the film. I still thought this later when the characters get into a bit of a fight, fall down and laugh – I figured he was showing us the effects of drink and drugs without being too judgemental. However if this was the case then he should have written better action, clever stuff with more meaning to it because by the end I was back to my original impression that this was just a student film. The basic animation works well and is impressive for a student, one-man band show, but the material was weak.

Not worth hunting down for this reason, but may be of interest to students studying the same courses as Lambe. For the casual viewer though, it is all just a bit too aimless and lacking reason to be memorable.

HOME ASTONE is a short film by Alex Lambe that features real life filming mixed in with stop frame animation . A young man indulging himself with a few cans of lager and a spliff gets a telephone call and so leaves his flat . While he's away a couple of plastic figures at his desk suddenly come alive and help themselves to the lager and the spliff

There's not much plot or subtext to Lambe's film by seeing as it's an animated short the plot probably isn't all that important . The two plastic characters don't really have much in the way of personality , they're just two entities that want to have a good time and while the animation is adequate it's not really outstanding either . I did feel slightly disappointed with the ending that should have revolved around an ironic twist involving drug taking but this doesn't happen , the film just finishes abruptly but at least the soundtrack is passable
