This depicts the martyrdom the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum in Carthage Jail in Carthage, Illinois. The date was June 27, 1844 and it was raining earlier that day. At about 5:00 in the afternoon, a mob broke into the jail and Joseph and Hyrum were trying to block the door from the mob, but to no avail. Hyrum fell dead on the floor after he was shot. Joseph was shot 7 times at the window and then fell out. The rain had stopped and was a sad day for the LDS church.
