Mary, because she's the dean now, doesn't have much time for Dick, which frustrates him. Jennifer, a new professor at the university, becomes Dick's office mate and he can't help feeling attracted to her. In the meantime, Sally tries to fix Nina up with Eric, a colleague of Don. At the bar where Harry works, Tommy finds a broken love tester and gets it going, but soon regrets having fixed the machine when it tells him he's a "cold fish".

The episode's title is a reference to Tina Turner's song "What's love got to do with it".

Dick picks up one of Jennifer's books, ruining it, and reads the title "Don Quixote". John Lithgow played the title character in Don Quixote (2000).

Laurie Metcalf guest stars in this episode. She plays Jennifer, a new college professor who ends up falling in love with Dick She's the 2nd star from the hit series Roseanne to guest star on 3rd Rock from the Sun. The first was Roseanne Barr back in season three. She also played a forced love interest of Dick's.
