Actress 'Robyn Wheeler' reported being genuinely put off by the grotesque shrunken head of Manalu and was uncomfortable sitting near it during her scenes.

FX makeup man Jason Hiltz created two elaborate robotic heads for Manalu. One had limited movement and was used primarily in scenes where attached to a decapitated body; the other was used for most of Manalu's speech.

The original shooting script called for Manalu to use an Axe to decapitate his victims, however a sword was substituted at the last minute to give a new look to the series' violent murder scenes.
