This is a pretentious two-part photoplay that has been beautifully mounted, directed and photographed; in these qualifications it is to be commended. As to the plot and theme, it deals with the social life of a military barrack, supposedly in England. Morality among the participants characterized is certainly not one of the attributes portrayed, especially on the part of the wives of petty officer to commander. The plot carries along the development of a mess of intrigue to exploit the fact that a young lieutenant is an officer and a gentleman. The finale of the court scene fails to convince. Cleaner construction would have made a grand offering. - The Moving Picture World, March 28, 1914
