Next stop Southeast Asia for Steven Seagal. This is a martial arts action film with a moral message, and a heart, about people trafficking. The main theme: one who aims to live a spiritual life will eventually be tested by a quandry, that by not facing and acting against an evil deed by another, one's spiritual integrity is undermined. "Attrition" is slickly produced with higher production values and better direction than any of Seagal's films since "Exit Wounds". I especially enjoyed the set design and the atmosphere it succeeded in creating. With a good supporting cast of impressive martial arts practitioners the film moves along smoothly though some of the dialogue is facile if not overly philosophical. All in all, it's a film that falls short because of its ending - a very short third act of predictable slaughter with very little resistance from the foes. Nevertheless, it is moderately enjoyable up to and including the finale.

Yes....there. I said it. And I DONT regret it. For SO long I lost hope, i got so tired of being dissapointed time after time after time.

But this is without doubt the best movie Steven Seagal has done in at LEAST 10 years. Hes back for real.

I will divide it up for you:

    1) Music. Great, asian feeling, mysterious feel, very very Kung Fu. Bonus in the credits for you all.

    2) Environment. Beautiful settings of Thailand, rainforests, small asian towns, backgrounds, asian style houses and interiors.

    3) Message. Yes, Seagal used to want to deliver a message in his glory days movies. Something that got lost on the way of later movies. Well....message recieved Sensei!

    4) Acting. Yes, he actually DOES ACT in this movie. He is caring, sad, laughs, calm, serious. Why? Because for the first time in years he finally gets to do a movie he cares about. So will the fans.

    5) Martial arts. Oh yeah.......havnt seen this great martial arts in Seagals movies since Belly of the beast and Into the sun. I love it. Kung Fu, Aikido, Wing chun, Thaiboxing. Its all there, packed into a glorious martial arts explosion of precision and grace.

    6) Action. What is a Seagal movie without a few gunshots right? But this time its focus is more on the fist and not the gun.

    7) Story. The story is simple, yet classic Seagal.

    8) Wardrobe. SPOILERS! Seagal looks friggin amazing in that Kung Fu jacket combined with that hat. The beard on that, he looks like a true master.

To sum it up, im so happy. My spark had been reignited. Thank you Mr Seagal for showing us all you can still get the job done.

I'll always remember Steven seagal in his best acting days when he was slimmer and was actually doing the fighting scenes. Nowadays I just watch his movies because I really hope that he's slimmed down and doing the fighting scenes without the stunt double that is so visibly seen fighting for him. It's so bad. At this point I think he just needs to stop acting and maybe just watch himself in his movies from back in the day and maybe teach the theory of martial arts.

Holy smokes. Could this movie be any worse? That was rhetorical, not needing an answer. I'm a long time Stephen Seagal fan from way back. I keep watching everything he does because of it. I guess so I can always say in a Stephen Seagal conversion, "yup, seen that one too". As time has gone on, I keep getting more and more amazed just how bad this dude has become. It's comical actually but he keeps turning out these atrocious flicks, keeps raking in the bucks from people who will continue to watch no matter how bad it gets. Hell, he even got a couple of 10s on this movie in here! That's just like, "woah". The more movies he makes, the more disjointed they become. He probably does one of these flicks like in a day, then walks off with a boat load of cash, flipping everyone off as he walks into the sunset. His fans will always love this dude. Hell, I still love this dude, but I sure don't know why.

Just checked this great martial arts action movie with Steven Seagal. The story is ok but more important the fight scenes are really nice and well choreographed. In my opinion the best martial arts action movie with Steven Seagal since Exit Wounds. Hope we (all of his fans) will see more great movies like this one. Big up

Attrition is in my opinion the comeback for good action/ martial arts movies. We ( his fans want to see good action , aikidio and lots of hand to handcombat. This is what we get in Attrition. Hope after this good Attrition we ll get to see some more solid action movies with Steven Seagal. 9 for Attrition. Hope the movie will come on blu ray in the Netherlands very soon.

Steven you can't write and you can barley sing. What the heck was that pro-log for? Some of the fight scene were good. But the story just wasn't there. If you want to see this movie I suggest you watch it in 2x the speed to save you time on wasting your life. Last, WTH was the end credit at the bar, fake playing the guitar for; filler?

Seagal was a special ops killer. Becomes a healer and philosopher in a small Laos/Cambodia/Thailand village. A daughter is kidnapped by bad guys. Segal comes out of retirement and gets back the team....need I say more?

This was written by Seagal who does not know the meaning of the word "twist." He talks a lot of philosophy as the story was a Seagal ego fest. Attrition refers to the notion that Kung-Fu great masters are gone and it is a dying art all over the world.

Seagal can't get his foot above his knee in the fight scenes. They use speed up camera when he moves and a thinner body double was shot from behind. They show an overview of a village that was ridiculously a cheap model. The whole film was created so Seagal can do his various soliloquies. Boring.

Guide: topless Asian chicks. Didn't catch any swearing in English.

I know what I'm getting into when I watch a Seagal movie these days.... But this one is deffinatly amidst the top tier of his recent movies. It's beautifully shot, great action scenes, good acting... No idea why there's such bad reviews.

His martial arts expertise is to kick when the director says "action" and then some impressive soft and calm movements like a real master. There is a scene filmed from above where you can clearly see is not him, even has a different haircut. Sorry I could not rate it lower.

I always and always will remember Steven seagal history of greatest movies like Above the law NICO, Marked for Death, Hard to Kill, Under Siege 1 & 2, Out for Justice, Glimmer Man, On Deadly Ground, Fire Down Below, and very bad film Executive Decision, During the latter half of the 1990s, Seagal starred in three more feature films and the direct-to-video film The Patriot. Subsequently, his career shifted to mostly direct-to-video productions. he comeback from exit wounds, Half past dead. then after then he started and being in a lot of direct to DVD movies a lot of good ones and bad ones, he comeback in 2010 sadly cameo in machete witch he didn't do anything wished for him to be in Expendables (2010) but he chosen bad opportunity role for machete film Robert Rodriguez. his best acting olden days when he is biggest name ever he was very famous massive names like jean claude van damme all another's action stars. i would have to say this is one of his better movies then worse code of honor and china salesman crap believe me watch them and watch this, this movie is better direct to DVD film but it's not really worst film but it's watchable if your die hard fan of seagal.

now i would say this is something a bit of always samething kinda like watching belly of beast or into the sun, revenge flicks type same old seagal simple plot it's bit different The story is ok but more important the fight scenes are really nice and well choreographed. Axe (Steven seagal) is a former marine but moved to china where ever it was located from, he is dressed up with chinese clothing he has a massage business of his own. his daughter gets kidnapped but she has mythical powers but you don't see any Fake as CGI powers in movie thank god that doesn't happen in film, then Axe team his former soldiers, like Infidel (Rudy Youngblood), Yinying (Kat Ingkarat) she is pretty Asian i like her attitude a lot and actress hasn't been involved in many movies, Chen Man (Siu-Wong Fan), Hollywood (Sergey Badyuk), Scarecrow (James P. Bennett) in a team to find Axe daughter. and film it's full on china traditional, seagal is speaking chinese and understanding it dressed like IP Man, and his martial arts in this film is no stunt doubles at all not like Black Dawn, Out of Reach, today you die. because in his old direct to DVD films not all of them i would say just couple has too many stunt doubles. in this no stunt doubles he does his own fight scenes witch is great i loved his fight scenes.

villains is not so much Black (Cha-Lee Yoon) and who has his daughter Qmom (Kang Yu) the fight scene between him and seagal with sword fight not so much the scene is brutal that was it, action is good but with fake CGI of crouse it's B-movie not a 500k film, it's enjoyable and watchable if your Steven seagal fan, i think seagal really needs to go back directing movies make those movies into a bigger budget films comeback to warner bros or something different company lionsgate make a big budget movies, seagal really deserved better for his career not doing Direct to DVD films sadly but this isn't that bad of movie to watch 7.10 only thing is for seagal, and movie for action and martial arts was good i just liked this a lot more then to Code of honor, China Salesman. this movie is heaps more better then code of honor, that's a direct to DVD film but worser then this you more find it worse if you hate it, but code of honor is the worst film of direct to DVD history. this i think it's just enjoyable to watch it for seagal it's little better.

I don't rate it as a bad movie. It has great cinematography moments but the overall bland story line and slow pace really make you want to switch it off at time. Someone said in his/her review that this movie should be watched at 2X and I fully agree with him/her. To me it carries hints on Seagal being inspired from movies like Ip Man and Equilibrium. The action shots are good but not great though some are very good. On the positive note, brief encounters are what Seagal was loved for and they are still there in his (plus his double's) fights. What i this guitar for in the end, by the way?

The late '80's and '90's saw the rise - and fall - of 2 credible action heroes: Jean-Claude van Damme and Steven Seagal. They also both made mostly crappy films after that. Seagal had his last highlight with 2001's "Exit Wounds" but that same year we also saw the terrible "Ticker". In 2004 Anthony Hickox (Warlock: The Armageddon, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth) directed him in "Submerged" which was rumored to be an unofficial "Under Siege" sequel. It turned out to be another terrible and cheap production with Seagal sleepwalking through the script that made no sense at all.

Since then Steamroller Productions released dozens of cheap and uninspired action films with Seagal having limited screen time, often dubbed, stunt men that looked totally different, boring shoot outs with cheap CGI blood, and so on.. In 2016 he even managed to have 7 (!!) films released, one even worse than the other.

"Attrition" is totally different. The production values and cast are good and the story is beautifully shot in Southeast Asia. And Seagal does act for a change. There are a couple of decent martial arts scenes where the stuntman is very limited. The story isn't heavy on action but has a message (human trafficking) and it includes elements of "Taken" and "The Expendables" in the last 20 minutes.

The downside is the use of obvious CGI blood and effects. It's a breath of fresh air to see the aikido master try again for a change, something that wasn't the case is his latest 20 films or so.

"Attrition" is just an average film but worth a look, especially for fans of his earlier work. He will never make another big budget action classic like "Under Siege" but this is a step in the right direction.

Why did you decide to become the Donald Trump of movie actors? You know, brimming over with confidense but short on actual talent. You know how Trump was all out of sorts because he was miffed that other countries were supposedly laughing at the USA, so he became Presidunce so people would laugh at him and not at the country, per se? Well, when I was watching this movie (full disclosure, I quit after 20 minutes because my brain cells threatened to stage an intervention and give me a stroke) it occurred to me you have fans around the globe, but they think of them as comedies. So, here is the question I want to axe you, Steven, are you in on the joke? Is it us who are mistaken for thinking you take this tripe you make seriously?

Apart from one or two reviews most of the reviews are just from ranting, whinging spoilt sounding BRATs!

We all should know by now that we will never see the old 1980'/90's greatness of Steven (Seagal) again. Many of the movies over his last 20 years have been utter rubbish but, this is not one of them! The individual action sequences were mostly from others and were good and nicely done. I don't believe it was his intention to be the films star but rather for the film to be the subject star...which was making the public more aware of, PEOPLE TRAFFICKING, animal and drug violations etc.

Nobody forces you to watch movies and movie fans don't want to have whinging , self centred nobody's spewing forth grammatical garbage that gives no insight into the film itself!

Its a great shame that others/all of the people in high profile positions don't get off their egotistical, self oppininonated backsides and try to help the world. The world, as Steven (Seagal) says a couple of times in the film, is morrally disintergrating to a unrecoverable level yet we still have numbnuts complaining about what Steven wears in his movies and another DumbDick reviewer that somehow managed to wangle Donald 'the Chump' Trump into the movie!

Kudos to you Steven and keep up the political shaming of the worlds wrongs and wrongdoers!
