The sequel to Shawn Is on the Trail (2012) was originally supposed to be called 'Killer Shawn' and was to feature a prolonged gun battle between Shawn Elestren and Paul Michael McIntosh. But when McIntosh made threats over his appearance in Trail the idea was reformatted and the movie begins with his character already dead. The sequel to 'Killer Shawn' was due to be called 'Dead of the Shawn' - a comedic short in which Shawn has trouble disposing of Paulie's body on a beach only for him to come back to life and be killed again. Both ideas were then combined.

The blood splatters on Shawn's jacket are real. In April 2012 he was involved in a violent street fight and his clothes were confiscated in evidence. He had to wait until February 2013 to get his jacket back from the police and decided to use it in the movie, passing off the real blood as the blood of his dead victim.

The first appearance of Miss Scarlett since Shawn's Final Countdown (2011). Her full name is now given as Countess Scarlett Minerva Ravensdale. First time around she was played by Paulina Kozdój, a Polish student, this time she is played by filmmaker Tina Doyle.

Shawn Watson and Tina Doyle had to hide from airport security and the police after being spotted filming at the iron bridge next to the runway perimeter fence. They also narrowly avoided being hit by an oncoming train when crossing said bridge.

The locations received heavy snowfall before production, strengthening the Xmas setting, but during the course of shooting it melted extremely quickly (within a couple of hours) which is why it is only visible in certain shots.

Paul Michael McIntosh was supposed to return, but was let go and recast after making legal threats over Shawn Is on the Trail (2012). The role was then given to someone much older, who Watson felt was too mature but he had no options left.

The beach were Shawn buries Paulie is the exact same spot where he dug up the treasure in Shawn's Treasure Hunt (2011).

After months of dying and re-dying, Shawn Watson's long hair was full of split ends and knots during filming. To get around this he decided to slick his hair back for the movie, a decision he later regretted. One day after filming he completely shaved his head.

Shawn is seen taking a packet of strawberry pencils from his victim and can be seen eating them in some shots. This was an attempt to add continuity to different scenes, but they are barely visible in most shots.
