Jack is much in love with Julie. She is very fond of her sweetheart, but cannot resist the temptation to enjoy a mild flirtation with a gamekeeper. Julie's father is not averse to poaching, nor is Jack, and the two men take their guns and wander off. Separating in the forest, Jack is stealthily creeping along when he perceives his sweetheart talking to the keeper. Jack follows him, unaware that Julie has seen him and stands, with blanched face and trembling, waiting for the tragedy she is powerless to avert. Meantime Julie's father has just brought down a fine pheasant, and, in following it up, stumbles over the body of the dead keeper. Flinging his own gun aside, he feels in vain for any sign of life, when suddenly a heavy hand is laid on his shoulder, and turning, he finds that two keepers have arrived upon the scene.
