Short summary

This gay couple is on the verge of breaking up. Yet unlike most couples, they say EXACTLY what's on their mind. Sort of.
Two lovers rendezvous on a Sunday afternoon in front of the penguins at the San Francisco zoo. Their greeting is awkward; there are nervous pauses, questions, evasions then blatant lies; finally, the truth comes out. Then there's shock, hurt, anger, barbs, and last words. Although the gestures, facial expressions, and tones of voice are real, the words the men speak are actually subtexts: "Insincere laughter." "Probing question." "Evasive answer." "Confusion - slightly suspicious." The ritual of animal behavior is on display.

This was one of the first videos I ever watched on the Internet and now it's 17 years later and I still think about it sometimes. It's amazing how it's stuck with me all those years. I thought it was a neat idea to say the meaning behind the words rather than the words themselves and I find myself many times doing this in my head when someone is talking to me. I often even think it of myself when making chit chat ("comment about the weather") I find the short film amazing and wish I could see it again

Cute short about a gay couple (Paul Charney and Daniel Lee) breaking up one Sunday afternoon at the zoo. But instead of speaking in ordinary language they use words that describe the type of sentence or word they would say. Like when would apologize (but not mean it) he says, "Obligatory false apology".

I thought it was cute at first but would wear thin--even at just 5 minutes. But the actors were both attractive and enjoying themselves (especially Charney) and the writing was so sharp and clever that it was consistently amusing. It's a very funny and original way to tell the often told tale of two lovers breaking up. I give this a 7.
