Elizabeth comes downstairs to greet Barnabas, her cousin from England, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the Barnabas Collins in the portrait hanging in her foyer. Barnabas tells her the portrait is of his ancestor. Victoria meets Barnabas, too, and she is just as struck by the resemblance--and his courtly manners. Barnabas, in turn, is struck by her beauty. Later, David is playing in the old house when Barnabas suddenly comes in. David thinks he's seeing a ghost, but Barnabas assures him he's real. David tells Barnabas of the ghosts that really do live in the cobwebbed old house, including the ghost of Josette, whose portrait still hangs there. When alone, Barnabas declares to the portrait that he's home.
