Short summary

Sid wakes up in bed with a hangover and brewery heiress Grace Fitzgerald but soon discovers that the brewery has burned down and her father Gabriel Kane killed. Unlike her step-sister Rose, Grace believes it was arson with sacked employee Owen Brunt the chief suspect. However when a witness claims to have seen Grace enter the brewery and she is charged with murder Sid cannot give her an alibi as he learns that she is married. Another murder follows before Father Brown solves the crimes.

The brewery and pub scenes in this episode were filmed at Donnington Brewery in Donnington near Stow-on-the-Wold in Gloucestershire and the Coach & Horses Inn (one of the brewery's pubs) in Longborough near Moreton-in-Marsh in Gloucestershire.

Sid thinks he has struck it lucky after he wakes up with a hangover and a beauty next to him in bed and she is an heiress to a brewery.

However the brewery has burned down, her father is killed and Grace Fitzgerald is the main suspect. Sid gets Father Brown to investigate and there are other suspects such as a disgruntled employee who might had committed the arson.

Poor Sid, just as his thought his luck was in, it gets cruelly snatched away, not helped that Grace is married. However the evidence against her does not look too good.

A somewhat simple but contrived mystery as you always think that Sid might had been used rather conveniently here and Father Brown thinks the same. At one point you are left wondering if the culprit has got away with it.

Sid wakes up after a one night stand with the beautiful Grace. Unfortunately for Sid Grace is married, Grace is in fact the daughter of the local brewer, a wealthy woman. When Grace returns home following her fling, she arrives to a Police presence, a fire at the brewery has taken her father's life.

A very enjoyable episode, a return to form after the slightly off form previous episode. It's a really enjoyable mystery, although it's apparent almost instantly who the guilty party is, but there's lots going for it, Sid, so often a user of women is given a taste of his own medicine. Grace makes a convincing victim, she's beautiful and sincere.

I love the touches of humour, Lady Felicia distracting the Sergeant for Father Brown and Sid to run into the house, for example is a really nice touch.

A little obvious, but great fun 8/10
