We have Hardcore Pawn in Ireland for the past year and a half. I first watched it a couple of months ago. In that time i don't think i have ever seen a family business run in the manner that this family run theirs. Normally when the kids come to work in the family business they start somewhere at the bottom so that they learn respect for Authority. These two consequences for children do not even respect their own father never mind that chap Rich who has been manager for 25 years. The series is a few years behind here in Ireland so i had to see an updated version to see if Rich the manager was still there. I just happened to look at the episode where he gets sacked. I can only say that they should be called the "Adams Family in Pawn" cause thats where it is at in terms of logic business. To think they have not grown up in two years is unbelievable. I did see the next episode where Rich comes back, but the Father is in the background watching him like a hawk as though he has done something terrible. The two Gold Kids should go out and get a job in the real world and learn to have respect for other human beings. If they want to be in Managerial Positions, first learn to be the employee so to understand the importance of the employee. The only other reason for all of this carry on is that it is staged. I would like to believe this is the case rather than to believe that this family actually run their business in the manner they do. If it is true the way they carry on, i can just imagine the family home on Thanksgiving: Ashley: Dad Seth is picking on me again. Seth: No Im not Dad, i had first say on the Turkey drumstick and she just can't keep getting her own way on everything. Dad: if the two of you don't stop arguing i will give the drumstick to your Mother. I've been cutting up turkey's for many years and i want you both to learn how to cut up a Turkey together even if it means on the journey you cut the Turkey to ribbons each year while you learn, at least in the end you will learn. The Turkey in this case is the employee's and the Father hopes that in the end they will eventually learn to respect the employees that are under their supervision. If the above is actually real. Its a very very long journey.

Found this show by accident and thought at first it was some parody of Pawn Stars but after watching 4 or 5 episodes I have come to some firm opinions. First, if ever a show perpetuated stereotypes, it's this one. From the sneering, low ball price offering Jewish money lender who "just want to help every one out if I could" (the father) to the "look at me, I'm tough when I stand behind my burly bodyguards and flex my mini-muscles while I imitate Daddy's sneer (the son) to the whining, screech-voiced princess of a daughter who, by the way, should probably spend more time pushing herself away from the table, and less time proclaiming how much she and her brood of Harpy's " care about the people". I'm still not convinced that everything that happens in that zoo isn't at least slightly enhanced for the cameras. That being said, I thank my lucky stars I've never had to deal with anyone like this group and I'm sure glad I don't live in Detroit but anyone who buys the crap this bunch is selling and thinks this is compelling TV would probably shop there. God forbid.!!

Being among the majority of viewers who find (some) entertainment in this, the latest style of "reality shows." ie based on odd albeit interesting professions. I HAVE TO SAY, "This family was born to do this work." For a minute, their competition, "PAWN STARS" almost lifted the reputation of pawnbrokers OUT of the gutter. FEAR NOT American PAWNBROKERS EVERYWHERE......this family are the very brand of parasites your "profession" is believed to have in droves. I'll start at the top. Ashley the sister, is without a doubt, her fathers daughter, but at times, shows some charity if only by giving "lip service" to the plight of those she deals with. Les Gold, the father is a "stand fast" negotiator, if he sets a price when buying merchandise, he won't budge from THAT price no matter what. The problem is, the price is NEVER FAIR. One gets the impression that as a boy, he must have been bullied. The reason for this is, no matter the price asked by a seller, he always goes lower, as if to force his will on the person he deals with. And NEVER SLIGHTLY LOWER...he goes so low as to insure disappointment, injury if you will. A not so sub-conscious need to avenge his own honor. He achieves the opposite. In any environment, outside an actual "Court of Law" what he does, would be considered robbery. The son Seth, is the worst of the bunch. He derives some sort of internal pleasure each time he "gets the better" of some poor "down on their luck" citizen of Detroit. The expression on his face is chilling. It isn't so much a smile as it is a sneer, showing contempt for those he considers beneath him. ie. The very people who put food on his table. He drew a "misers pleasure" by charging a fee from a man whose superstition put a need to have daily contact with some figurine he had pawned with the shop. To watch Seth tell his little scheme of charging a "visitation fee" was truly "telling". He all but wrung his hands, like the classic "villan" in an old "silent film". I feel it necessary at this point to mention that although they're in the same trade, the folks on "Pawn Stars" conduct business in a completely different manner. I suspect that when a client leaves the Vegas pawn shop, he feels as if he's been treated fairly and with respect. In contrast.....when a Detroit citizen leaves "American Pawn and Jewelry" the ONLY thing he feels....is the need for a bath.

In closing, I can't help remembering the woman who came into "Pawn Stars" with a small, old fashioned pin. A butterfly perhaps..... She was hoping for a hundred dollars or two, as she'd found it in a drawer belonging to her recently passed granny and knew nothing of its' true value....after close inspection of the pin, and the blue box it came in, the "pawnbroker" informed the woman of what she had.....what the "Pawn Stars pawnbroker could EASILY have purchased for a mere few hundred dollars. Would NOW cost him $17,000.00, due to his sense of "fair play". Had this woman possessed the "bad luck" of living in Detroit, Les or Seth Gold would have probably whittled her down to a hundred dollars or less, and walked away feeling fulfilled by their negotiating "skill"(?)and their ability to wrangle a larger profit from an unsuspecting victim. This show is worth watching if only to show HOW NOT TO DO BUSINESS.

After watching 2 episodes of "Hardcore Pawn" and noticing that the producer of the show is Richard Dominick, I wasn't surprised. Dominick is/was the producer of the Jerry Springer show, and unless you've been living under a rock, you know what drek that show is.

Others have commented on the curious similarity, or dissimilarity to 'Pawn Stars', if you were hoping for something in the same vein, forget about it. Pawn Stars in a more interesting take on the PBS show 'Antiques Roadshow' and is interesting as well as entertaining. HP is televised ghetto exploitation, I felt like taking a shower after watching it.

It gets 2 stars because the camera operator didn't drop the camera, I'm feeling generous today.

In recent years Tru TV has been churning out these phony Reality shows at a brisk clip. Probably entirely scripted, their casts aren't real actors and are only marginally real humans. The opening tag "Based on real-life events", is key to understanding this deception. It's a slippery way of saying "We made it all up". If you're willing to spend the $ to become a member of IMDb Pro, you'll discover that they helpfully break down viewership demographically. Guess who likes "Operation Repo", "Hardcore Pawn" and all the others....Young Males....period. I was one of those a long time ago and remember being loud and self-importantly clueless. If you assume everyone likes to watch shows full of people and situations they can identify with you begin to understand. This is about capturing the attention of the advertisers dream audience. Undiscriminating immature dudes. It's deeply cynical of Tru TV execs to pretend these shows are anything but bogus and shows a genuine contempt for their target audience. Ugly, full of improbable events and noisy cranks it's not even good fiction. Radioactively bad.

i am a 41 year old Marine Veteran. Active duty stateside during the Gulf War. I was Injured during a training accident. I broke my back after a fall. After being transferred to the Balboa Naval hospital and put into a back brace they found that i had Cancer. Well since then I have had several radiation and chemotherapy treatments, 2 bone marrow transplants, fluid in my lungs, a dead hip and a heart valve replacement, not including all of the problems resulting from these original things. Once upon a time i was driving down Michigan ave and stopped in to the pawn shop in a hurry to use the restroom. I had to convince them i was not there to rip them off just after asking to use the restroom. after a long discussion finally Leslie let me in to use the head. After leaving the restroom i was talking to his daughter and explained what had happened to me. At the same time Leslie's son overheard me telling her what had happened to me and he went crazy, telling me that i disgusted him and that he should kick my ass for "Pretending to be a Soldier". According to him if you aren't fighting you aren't a soldier and should not be allowed to say you are. He started coming at me and a security guard came up behind me. I warned them that I would be completely justified to defend myself if i felt my life was in danger. Obviously anyone in my place would have felt threatened by a man coming toward you and another man twice his size coming up behind you. Regardless of their intentions i was not going to allow myself to be manhandled. I explained that i would go as long as no-one touched me. I had warned the security guard that if he were to grab me i would defend myself and that all he had to do was to ask me to leave and i would walk out the door. Just then as i was walking out the door Leslie got in my face and said he was going to kick my ass for threatening his son and security guard. I did not and would not ever threaten anyone who didn't threaten me first. I left and have never been back. I personally believe that these people are doing some serious illegal drugs. I wouldn't go to this place if it was last place on earth. It's a sh.thole with morons who run it. In fact, i don't believe they even support our troops at all. The whole show depicts all of the negative aspects of Detroit. Curse you TruTV.

This program is painful to watch. 90% of the customers are African-American's that seem to wish to to run scams on the owners. The other painful aspect is Ashley! This woman has to be seen to be believed! She is an Out-of-Control, control freak and doesn't know what she is doing in the first place. If the old man is going to depend on her to run the business, he might as well burn the place down right now. Other than this woman going off on the customers and her co-workers, the other employees seem to have the patients of Saints. The program has shown me that the art of negotiation is a many faceted one, especially when being the pawn-broker that automatically has the upper hand in this process.

If you have seen the show "Pawn Stars" this show is for their competition and probably boosted their ratings seeing as TruTV wanted to compete and give them a laugh. Only thing is, in this show, there is the type of stuff you see on the regular TruTV show. We get lots of cussing, yelling, violence, and an everyday family that can't get along at all.

While Pawn Stars is a collection of very valuable unique items, Hardcore Pawn is nothing more than what you normally see in a pawn shop, except one thing. The family is running the business and consist of the father Les owning the place, and his son and daughter among those running it. Les seems like a nice guy you can get along with. Ashley (The daughter) is the average bad guy character in a staged reality show no different than Matt on TruTV's staged Operation Repo.

For starters, if this was a professional business, Ashley would be fired. The constant embarrassment of her arguing and picking fights in front of customers (Do note how the cameras always focus on customers turning their heads to listen to her cussing and yelling at an employee) all that her father does is basically slap her on the wrist and cuss at her along with the son who constantly fights with her. Since this is a show and it's got to have that family drama of a bad seed, she is on this show to make it worse.

I really tried to like this show but I can't. It's the kind of show I would expect from TruTV. Constant yelling, cussing, screaming, violence, and as you can guess, like on Operation Repo where the people just go insane, on here you have at least one customer every episode that is a big problem and has to make a scene in the shop.

At least Pawn Stars keeps the trash at the door, and has far more interesting items besides what you would find in your local pawn shop.

This show angers me for so many reasons! The family is scum and absolutely horrible to watch! Even the mother, who I saw once trying to shoot at a range, is scum! The rings she wore we're probably from someone down and out! The attitudes of this family are horrible from the skinny drawn out father with the mullet to the bitchy daughter who should not be on the show at all! I love to see different collectible items that are bought in to pawn shops but this show concentrates on drug addled black people or mentally deranged homeless desperates who get ripped off by this family! The vibe you get from the show is simply scum! Just scum! I know that people who pawn things are on hard times so it is a sad atmosphere to be in but these people take this to a whole new scummy level! The owners are worse than the customers! Again, the owners are WORSE than the customers! The producers should find a better pawn shop with reputable management to feature on these shows! It is not good when you get annoyed when watching a show because I just turn the channel!

... then you will hate this show. When I first saw this show I assumed it was a blatant rip off of Pawn Stars. However, since I love that show I thought that it would be worthwhile to have another similar show to enjoy. Unfortunately this show is simply terrible.

Overall, none of the characters are amusing or worth watching nor is any of the merchandise interesting. This is a sharp contrast to Pawn Stars where the items being pawned are often historically valuable and the members of the show are genuinely funny.

I gave this show the benefit of the doubt and watched four episodes. In this sample, not one item of interest was pawned, I didn't find any part funny, and most of the scenes seem staged and unbelievable. In other reviews you will consistently see the episode with the gun store mentioned. This is because that particular scene seemed like it might be the most interesting situation in the show. However, once they've strung you on until the last twenty seconds of the episode it appears extremely fake and totally unreasonable.

To be fair a lot of my criticism focuses on the comparison of this show to Pawn Stars. Not only does it seem like an extremely cheap knock off, even if I had never seen Pawn Stars I think this might be one of the worst shows I have ever seen.

I first seen this show on TruTV one night flipping channels with my husband. We watched it thinking it was something along the lines of Pawn Stars, and we were very disappointed.

One can easily sit here and trash this show by comparing it to another great show but I am going to give it an honest review without comparing it to Pawn Stars through out everything wrong with the show.

Hardcore Pawn takes place in Detroit, where everyone comes to pawn their stuff for cash. We see the store, and it's fairly decent, and by the size you can tell it has had success, which brings up my first point of problem. It is family owned.

Les GOLD (No joke, that's his name) owns the pawn shop, manages it and then has his kids in charge of it, which are Seth and Ashley. Neither of them are likable, bringing up a hard time watching this show.

As people bring in the more expensive things to pawn off, Les and his son Seth always go for the LOWEST PRICE and successfully rip people off. In one episode a man brought a deck of military and navy playing cards printed in 1899. The cards easily were worth a few hundred bucks, and had an official certificate of proof. They also had never been opened, sealed in the case. Instead of trying to give this guy at least $100 for something that is over a hundred years old and very valuable, Seth offers 20 dollars, 20 DOLLARS for something that has been sealed for a hundred dollars! The guy eventually settled for 30 bucks, and got ripped off. This is just an example of how the Gold family belittles people and rips them off every way possible on this show.

Next is Ashley, Les' daughter. While the son is probably the worst of them for ripping customers off so bad, Ashley has a reputation only for her mouth. It's hard watching this show because of her constantly shooting her mouth off and it makes one wonder; why is she in charge? Oh she's his daughter, that's right. When Ashley starts screaming and cussing in front of the customers (And do note how the camera's focus on the customers turning their heads to look) all it does is make the store look bad. Her father don't care, and while he complains and moans on camera about her, he does nothing to resolve the issue of her constantly arguing with the employees.

In contrast I will not say this show is staged like some people have mentioned. I do believe it could be real, but it is extremely exaggerated. As other reviews suggest, every episode has some drama and tension from at least one bad apple customers that threatens violence, or like usual; they make a big scene in the store by yelling cussing and screaming threatening to beat someone up. This makes it boring very fast, especially when it's every episode.

Before watching this show, do not compare it to Pawn Stars. What you're getting is the complete opposite. While Pawn Stars is more of unique items that have a real history and value, they also try to give people their money for things. I'm sure if someone brought in a deck of military playing cards from 1899 on Pawn Stars, they would have at the lowest offered a hundred dollars and tried to make a deal, unlike Seth on Hardcore Pawn that wanted to go to 20 dollars.

One of this show's taglines is "expect the unexpected", so if you weren't expecting a worthless piece of crap they will have at least delivered on this tagline.

This ripoff of the much more interesting "Pawn Stars" is awful beyond words. You don't get to see interesting artifacts and collectibles, don't get appealing characters, don't get to see experts who explain the history of amazing items, don't get information about the pawn business. I could go on endlessly on what you don't get, but I'll stop and tell you what you do get.

You get 3 obnoxious family members who run a pawnshop in Detroit, who argue over the most trivial things, and run around screaming for no apparent reason. One angry customer shouts "You're dead", then peels out of the parking lot. The patriarch of the boring family then shouts "I could have gotten killed" (if only) and threatens to fire security staff. Since guns cannot be pawned in Detroit and people are interested in guns, the boring pawn family decides to get guns for their protection. But first they must argue about how unpleasant but necessary it is for them to have guns for their protection. Off they truck to a much more interesting establishment, a gun store, where they demonstrate their inability to shoot straight.

If you find this review excruciating to read, it's only because I have captured the mood of this show. In fact, TruTV owes me 2 hours of my time back. They better give me 5% per month interest on my time when they pay off.

I am a huge fan of reality shows and was very excited to see this title. After sitting down with some snacks it didn't take even until the first commercial to see how much of a train wreck this was. This show focuses more on the highly uneducated people that constantly patron this establishment. Its the typical attitude that is displayed in any poor city with the likes that come with it. Sub titles will be helpful because although English is technically the mother tongue of the customers they speak highly unintelligible. The founder of the business is no doubt intelligent enough to run a highly risky business but has the personality of a wanna be tough guy and seems to get wound up super easily all the time. His kids are constantly throwing wining tantrums like spoiled little kids and in my strong opinion if the son ever took over the business he would run it into the ground sooo fast it wouldn't even take a year. If you live in a sheltered tiny town and didn't know people like this existed then i would imagine you might enjoy an episode or two until you realize how pathetic it truly is.

This show is a JOKE. They downgrade Detroit!! I live in Detroit and visited that store plenty of times and no one has ever did some of those crazy things that are shown on TV. Those people are paid to act that way. I feel that they purposely try to make Detroit and residents look bad. They always seem to show the BAD parts of Detroit when we indeed have good parts. This show is such a huge joke and I really don't know why its even televised. I just really hate the way Detroit is being presented and the residents. I also don't understand why people would get on there and act like that. And I know there acting because every time I go there none of those wild things happen. One day if you happen to visit Detroit visit American Jewelry and Loan and you'll see. When in fact it's not even really in Detroit its borderline Southfield.

My compost bin is better entertainment than this rubbish. It's trash t.v. on a pawn ticket and worth watching only if you're in need of a good bowel movement. I started watching this in good fairness and after a few episodes concluded I can produce better content from a laxative. There's no value to be derived from this dysfunctional family dynamic and completely represents what is wrong with that demographic. Absolute crap! I'd rather watch Oprah from a hot tub with both wrists slit or tolerate an episode of Jerry Springer after choking down an overdose of sleeping pills - any brand will do. Don't waste your time with this show - it's useless, worthless and absolute crap!

I can appreciate how hard it must be when dealing with the public, especially when some do not act rational. Thats when it is most important that Les, Seth and Ashley act in a professional manner. I am shocked to hear Seth or Ashley f-bomb a customer, no matter how disrespectful the customer is behaving. They should know when to walk away and just have security walk the customer out, not follow that person out while exchanging insults. It just lowers the Gold's to the level of the customer. I wish Ashley and Seth could work together better. There is absolutely no sights of support between them. I don't know how Les is ever going to be able to turn the business over to them. Lastly, Seth needs to show his father more respect. The things he says and the manner he says them must be very hurtful to Les.

This show is fantastic. If you're into precious metals, ancient guns, and historical artifacts- THIS IS NOT THE SHOW FOR YOU. If you have more than 2 working brain cells you will clearly see that this show isn't anything like Pawn Stars. Pawn Stars is more on the historical side,(hence the network they are on) while Hardcore Pawn is more on the "intense" and "realistic" side of the pawn business. This show is a REALITY show. Comparing it Pawn Stars is like comparing Terminator to Back to the Future. In which they share a certain concept but not a genre. I really got into this show, they actually want to help people and don't rip off every single customer they meet. It's not a perfect 10 but it's fun to watch. Seriously, if you're into reality shows, this is a must watch. It's funny, intense, and really realistic.

@bnurtyk from Austrailia: If this show is real in your mind, you need help. Let me help you and run a scenario by you: You are at your counter. A customer comes in with a broken Game Boy. "Can I help you?" "Yeah. I wanna pawn this. What'll ya give me for it?" "Well, since it's broken I can give you $4." "FOUR DOLLARS?! I ain't leaving until you gimme $200!" "Four dollars is the best I can do." "You gimme $200 or I'll come back and SHOOT you!" Then an obese bouncer drags the person out with employees following shouting obscenities. Is that how pawn shops are run in Austrailia? I didn't think so. Here's how it would go down if it was real: "...FOUR DOLLARS?!...I'll come back and shoot you!" The manager would then call the police. Police would arrest customer for "terroristic threats"...a felony. If this show were real, the Detroit police would NOT let this crap happen with every other customer 24 hours a day. Bouncers cannot lay a hand on anybody. To forcefully remove somebody is kidnapping. Another felony. So if you think every 30 minutes a couple dozen felonies are occurring, you are nuts. Anyone who thinks this show is real is nuts. It's all staged. How else would the cameramen be able to move around, face each actor and tape every line during an argument? These type of programs are an insult to America. All those "repo" and "towing" shows are fake and staged. Multiple felonies occurring each episode and the law does nothing? Still think it's real? Need any more help? Help out by not watching these and not buying the products advertised. They all will be gone in 2 weeks.

If you are looking for a TV show that has no plot, awful characters, and goes nowhere with its premise, then look no further than Hardcore Pawn. It is an all out abysmal excuse of a TV show that not only tries to be a Pawn Stars wannabe, but it has virtually no redeeming values to the show whatsoever.

Unlike Pawn Stars where the owners and workers there acted professional, funny, and treated their customers with respect, Hardcore Pawn has none of that. Every member of the Gold family is almost always acting disrespectful in some way to somebody. They very rarely act like professionals, all they do is shout and yell as much profanity as you would hear on Jerry Springer, and they always treat their customers like dirt for the most part. There are even times when an item brought in by a customer looks valuable, but the store buys it for a cheaper price and rip off their customers.

I suppose though I can give the employees some slack since the customers are always so ignorant and rude to them. It seems all they love to do is curse out at everyone, flip out over the tiniest thing, and pretty much act belligerent and rude to everyone around them. It's a wonder that many of these people aren't in jail for the way they act or forced to go into therapy.

Speaking of the Gold family, they aren't good business owners at all and it's a wonder that the way they run their shop, they haven't been shut down yet. Les is probably the only member of the family I like. He's still kind of shady, but he at least isn't screaming at everyone almost every two seconds or so. He does maintain a decent professional outlook on his business. His big highlight though is when he refused to buy a radar gun from a dad who badmouthed his son for losing a baseball game. It shows Les isn't so obsessed with money and greedy.

Seth is a rather arrogant man who does have his moments. Most of the time though he's often making a lot of bad deals and seems to rip off customers with how much he's willing to buy something. He also gets into a lot of fights with his sister, Ashley, and seems to do a little too much cursing. Not to mention he NEVER admits he did anything wrong. He seems to think he can do no wrong.

Ashley, though, gets my vote for the worst member of the family and is someone who should not be in any kind of business at all. All she does in EVERY episode is whine, complain, moan, and act like a complete spoiled brat. She's always cussing out at everyone, makes them do something for her, and screams and yells at everyone from her family, to employees, and to customers. In one episode alone, a group of employees are acting lazy and Ashely tells Seth and Les about it. Les tells her to handle it and what does she do? She pouts and gives Seth a cold glare and expects someone to do her job. Seriously, if she was running a business and I was near it, I would boycott the place and shop anywhere else than a business run by this so called "manager". It's a wonder nobody has hit her yet, punched her teeth out, or how she hasn't been fired from the store with her rotten attitude.

As for storyline, there really is none to talk about since the plot goes nowhere for the most part. I know it's similar to Pawn Stars with having to buy and sell stuff to customers, but it seems that most of the time they add in unneeded plots like who will run the store or something in there to liven things up. It feels more like this show can't decide on what it wants to be. Is it a show about who will run a pawn shop, or a show very similar to Pawn Stars? Who knows and more importantly, who cares?

Hardcore Pawn is very weak at best. The concept is not only a big ripoff to Pawn Stars, but it's got bad main characters, with the exception of Les since he's the only one who acts decent, irritating customers who always fly off the handle, and a storyline that seems to have no idea what it's trying to be. If you want a good show about a pawn store, stick to Pawn Stars instead and steer away from this show at all costs.

I have watched this series from its inception so this review is written by someone who has knowledge of the show and hasn't seen just a couple of episodes.

First of all, let me start with Les Gold. Les is, fundamentally, a kindhearted man. He's got a good business head on his shoulders and has been in this business for many, many years. He knows the pawn business, no doubt. What I don't like is now narcissistic he is and the way he treated his longtime employee, Rich, over a minor issue was inexcusable. Rich has been there 25+ years and Les throws him under the bus over some minor mistakes? That's crazy. Good employees are hard to find which brings me to my next issue; Les's children, Seth and Ashley.

I think both Seth and Ashley are extremely immature and both have a ton of growing up to do. Instead of spending all of their time arguing with each other and trying to outdo each other, they should expend that same amount of energy into running the business. Behaving the way they do in front of customers (screaming and swearing at each other) is ludicrous and makes them look like the spoiled rotten brats they are. Seth thinks he can do no wrong and Ashley spends 99% of her 'work' day glaring at people or trying to find a way to start drama with Seth. Grow up already; this is a woman raising two children? Geesh..Family or not, they would not last two seconds in my business. Both of them drive away customers with their nastiness. Ashley clearly has some anger issues and is probably the biggest drama queen on television. She shouldn't have a reality show; she should have her own soap opera! Seth doesn't have enough respect for his dad and the fact that his dad has been in this business for a long time and knows his stuff. All three (Les, Ashley and Seth) need to rise above the drama and not engage people trying to cause trouble. It may make for entertaining television but it does nothing to instill confidence in potential customers. That's only my opinion though. This is a business, not a Broadway stage. They would do well to remember that.

My third issue with this show is the fact that they do not make fair deals. I know; it's a pawn shop but come on....Some of their offers are downright insulting. Personally, I have never had need of a pawn shop but if I ever did, I would probably not choose this one. 9 out of ten times, they do not offer anywhere NEAR what an item is worth. All they do is look on Ebay and see what the item is and how much it's going for..there's a LOT more to researching an item and Ebay is not a reputable source as it is the seller setting the price. Each item should be appraised by a professional prior to bringing it in so you have some idea what you are dealing with and how to haggle..and not to get screwed ;)

My favorite on the show is Rich (although I'm not sure he's still on there). He is one of the only reasons I continued to tune in. He's sharp, funny, cute and knows his stuff..he's easygoing, laid back and brings some real 'reality' to this show that really does nothing more than showcases the decay of Western society.

I found this show by accident one day and have been hooked ever since. To start with I am a Pawnbroker from Australia, which from my review may come to feel like I am a little bias, but on the other hand means I have a far greater understanding of both sides of the counter than most.

I can tell you with 100% honesty that this is a very realistic portrayal of pawnbroking. This store operates on a much much larger scale than my own but the situations and deals these guys make are very similar to my own.

There are a few things that you need to remember/know about this business. Number 1 is that the pawn shop is there to make money just like any other business, not charity! Do you really think any other store buys anything for the same price it sells it for? No and neither does a pawnbroker.

Number 2 is that yes they often deal with people in a lower socio-economic background but a lot of the time this is often a result of their own actions, mainly being Gambling, Drugs or Alcohol or simply spending more money than they have and dodging creditors they have screwed over and therefore and ruined their credit rating. Examples of this are shown in a couple of episodes where people have lost all their money at the casino, borrow more money and head straight back to "flip it"

I have had many of the same encounters as portrayed in this show and find the similarities amazing. Fair enough there is a bad side to it that you cant ignore but this is what its like. You have try to be fair to the customers but in the same moment doing whats best for the business which at times can be tough and makes for a very high stress environment. Having to try and know something about everything is very hard and anyone that thinks they can do better really should try it first. Buying, Loaning and even trying to sell 2nd hand goods is extremely challenging and full credit to these guys for making it work in the large scale they operate in.

I have yet to see the other show Pawn Stars that everybody seems to be comparing it to and this is on my ToDo list, but you need to watch a show for what it is rather than what other shows its like, because in all honesty just about everything now-days is a rip-off or spin on some other existing show.

Like most family business orientated shows it does sometimes focus a little too much on the family relationships as opposed to the business aspect of it but this also shows the stress that the business can cause and adds a little bit of depth to the people involved. Overall its a great insight into the world of pawnbroking and it does seem to be getting better as they go along.

OK first off I am very interested in pawn business's, and anything related to coins and precious metals. I think the jewelry aspect of this show is the most interesting, and the least represented. A couple of highlights from the show include a local artist who made custom dolls of all the shops employees which Les buys, and Les bending over backwards to placate an irritable customer over a 3 year old pawn gone bad in which the shop had a minor fault in. Other than that I think the rest is garbage, trivial infighting, Some embarrassing moments for the family include, getting kicked out of a local gun shop and range after they kept haggling for more discounts, Hosting a radio advertised event and botching a raffle to a huge angry crowd, I can't believe Les thought he did a good job on that one; he should has listened to his kid and done a normal radio ad, and a whole bunch of scenes where the staff acts real condescending towards customers, One particular rude scene Les wouldn't make an offer on a piece of jewelry, he insisted that she tell him how much she wants for it, hoping she was uninformed. The rest is junk, they don't go over any cars in detail, once Les made an offer then went out back on ebay look up, then backed out of the deal. This show is the seedier side of the pawn business, both sides of the counter!!

What's with this show this season: What every happened to Richie? He was the best to watch on the show.He was the reason we all watched the show after the first episodes of boredom. I don't see him on anymore. Anyone know if he still works there? And what is which Ashley? She sounds as if she doesn't even work there. She doesn't know her inventory, or information on the business. She is rude and just a filler for the time because there is nothing else to put on. Is she a plant. This is a joke of a show without Richie. Hope to see him on soon, or we won't be watching this anymore. Pawn Stars way better and more real. Not a rip-off of customers.

This is just another disgusting show that the lefywood producers in Hollywood would have you believe is normal America. Any moron that ran their business the way these idiots pretend to run there's would be out of the business in the first year. Fortunate for them this is just all leftywood hype and staged for the cameras.

It's a shame that the producers in leftywood would turn a possible good show into a Jerry Springer trailer trash type production. They tried their best to insult the American people's intelligence by asking us to believe that morons are the only people who own and operate businesses in America. This type of trash TV even seems to be spreading to what used to be honorable channels such as the history Channel and the Discovery Channel just to name a few.I have yet to find anything historical about a bunch of morons and trashy people pretending to run their business in such a manor. Hopefully people will stop watching this nonsense and understand that it's just staged and nothing about it is real.
